With hindsight was Jo nieve in allowing Tabak, amost a complete stranger to enter her flat and will it send a warning to vulnerable people of the opposite sex?
naomi, i think there is some crossing of posts here, the one about eamonn holmes, telling the girl she should have got a taxi, apologies. I have been going back and having a look at some of the previous news threads.
there is something very odd going on, either my mind is going, as i just replied to another question, something i was looking at, and its' just appeared here, no idea why.
Em, if it's the Eamonn thing, then I think it's probably less safe for a girl to walk home alone late at night than during the day. Hence I agreed with him that she should have taken a taxi.
Ann - I am shocked at the sight of some girls "going out on the razzle" in our town - they are positively inviting trouble with their dress sense and their flirty attitudes not to mention their drunken state even at 9pm .
It doesn't matter how women dress. Men don't get an irristible urge to have sex with any woman in a short skirt. Rape is about power and control. Skimpy clothes do not turn men into rapists.
It's with attitudes like that, that women still get the blame for being raped.
I'm not suggesting Jo was in any way inviting this monster to act the way he did ....... see my previous comment
Not that I think poor Jo was at any fault in this case, I was just making a comment about some young girls.....
... and made what appears to have been a comment about her cat - not suggestive at all, if the conversation has been reported correctly. She was waiting for her boyfriend to come home!
I think he knew of her and wormed his way in knowing the boyfriend was away. He came on to her and when she refused he sexually assaulted her. At that point she screamed and he then put his hand on her mouth and the other on her neck to keep her quiet.
I think he was probably surprised she died so quickly. The pathologist report did say her heart failed.
I don't believe he strangled her because of a fetish. The police like to find associations. If you for example were accused of stealing a brand new Mazda MX5 and happened to have a picture on your pc of one as your wallpaper, it would add weight to the case even if you knew it was pure coincidence.
One thing this case shows though is that too many rely incorrectly stereotypes. The black man with the hoody is not always a drug dealer. The unshaven man living alone by a school is not always a pervert and the weird looking landlord is not always the murderer of this tenant.
As for Tabak. Quiet man that everyone liked with lovely girlfriend, nice job. Could he be living next to you right now?

Not quite the same as having pictures of women being strangled on your computer.
