Bit daft.

It's hard to have a strong opinion about it as I know the written word doesn't always come across as intended.
I'm not a great fan of hers, but I don't think she could be accused of racism, and by the way, it is historically true ! Politicians would be well advised to not twitter, it gets so many get of them into hot water.
Her comment seems fine to me in the context of Imperialism/Colonialism, it was a handy skill for the Empire! I think people are being a little over-sensitive.
Well drummed up by whoever pushed this into the press though!
Can't stand the woman. She always has been two-faced.
Diane Abbott "should lead by example" and resign ??

LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL ... !!! ... and LOL !

The same Diane Abbott who berated private education as elitist and divisive ...

... and then sent her children to a private school?

THAT Diane Abbott?

Well known for ... ... ... "leading by example" ??

More LOL's !!!
its difficult to judge without seeing the full context of the tweets.
Completely agree with Naomi, and I personally think she is racist. Always have done.
do you have the tweet she was responding to? it doesn't seem to make much sense
Agree with Jayne too.
this woman has a track record of racist comments.....cant stand this egoistic woman
I don't think it's hard to judge.

It is a critical and offensive comment.

It singles out "white people" as the target of the comment.

If it was the other way round, and someone had said

... "Black people love [something negative]" ...

... then people like Diane A would be down on it like a ton of bricks.
Very true Jayne.
very vert true jj
And I agree with Naomi, JJ and LL. Two-faced supercilious woman.
Rather a naive comment by her perhaps but not racist. Lots of people make ill-advised, sweeping statements about "white people" and "black people". As someone else has commented there is a bit of historic background to this which may or may not be appropriate today.
And as I said elsewhwhere, Twitter is like an online toilet, and it is a fact of life that people cr*p in toilets. One day we'll get over the novelty of it.

I like her - I think she's great. You need a few people to set the splutterers off :-)
Ed, imp/col is how most immigrants 'chose' to live in UK. They wanted to live here as Brits, under our laws.

At the time of imperialism there was global colonisation; if it wasn't Brit it could have been russian, chinese, turkish or spanish.

half of it doesn;t make sense and what does is coming off pretty racist to me
