I agree, sadly she will face a terrible time in prison. She is clearly not evil which is the only sane reason for someone killing their own child.

I still can't get my head around it. Surely no sane human being would do such a thing?
I kind of agree naomi, but rightly or wrongly I tend to trust our judicial system, and if they consider her to be sane, having locked her up in a normal prison and not a hospital, then that's good enough for me that she's compos mentis.
I wouldn't say she was sane at the time and that's why she's been convicted of manslaughter.
I know what you mean - but I seriously cannot get my head around how someone can do such a terrible thing and yet be deemed sane.
Sorry, my last was to flip_flop - but you could be right, Ummmm.
But surely ummmm if she wasn't sane at the time she wouldn't've been convicted, she'd've been 'admitted'.

I don't know.
believe me had she be deemed unfit, as in mentally impaired, she would be in an mental health hospital and not in prison. I will never understand why they do it, horrible.
I doubt if she was mentally fit when she tried to kill herself. It is possible to wobble you know and lose the plot and still be found sane afterwards. The fact that she seriously tried to kill herself and piled soft toys around her child when she killed her, I think says it all.

I doubt if anybody who seriously tries to kill themselves can be consider mentally fit at the time. It's not a cut and dried thing.
In other words I agree completely with ummmm and her sentence reflects that.
i dont think anyone feels 'sympathy' for her exactly ... perhaps that is not the right word

more pity i think, that a human being could ever get to a place in their head where they thought this was a good idea, and was maybe the only option... you have to be unhinged to behave this way - and that must be a terrifying place to be.... i pity her, for her state of mind prior to this incident...
for anyone to feel that messed up in the head that they saw no wrong in this, is very sad.

however in terms of her crime and punishment i have no sympathy that she is suffering now, and is in prison for a long time and also has injured herself beyond repair....
because no matter how low she felt, she should have never involved her child and done such a disgusting thing - if she really wanted to die, then she should have just killed herself.
lots of people want to die, but they dont feel the need to take other innocents with them...and for that she deserves her punishment ...
i think even she herself would admit that though she may not like it, she deserves her punishment
