Why didn't you just state that in your question? It seemed that you wanted to discuss crime stats and whether these attack constitute a change in the level of violent crime.

So how do you want to play it? shall we start with the blacks, or perhaps the corrosive effects of violent films and video game or the breakdown in respect for authority?

By the way, your post from 10:19 now reads a little ingenuous, because it now looks like your motivation for opening this topic isn't to evoke outrage at the crimes, but to start a discussion about race and crime.

Early in the thread, you described 'living long enough to be able to make comparisons' as support for your opinion on what it was like in the past. You did the same later on: 'please give me the benefit of knowing about the past, than those who have only read about it.'

You also explicitly made such a comparison between the past and the present: "Even in the days of the WW2 blackouts, women and girls were safe to walk home alone, but today's sexual predators do not even wait for the hours of darkness to commit their brutal sex attacks, they even strike during the hours of daylight."

As a result, posters have been providing examples and evidence questioning this assertion about the past. Your response was to call these responses 'nothing short of disgusting', and then to start complaining that you are unfairly criticised all the time. Finally, you blamed the 'non constructive response' to your thread on said posters' sensibilities towards race.

I don't create the news boxtops, there are a great deal of gloom and doom news stories about, these days.

But one must admit it is these type of stories that attract attention 73 so far on this one alone, would it be better to look for nice easy on the mind stories, which I am sure would attract less interest.

Isn't that the whole purpose of journalism to sell papers, a newspaper that only printed the nice cosy news stories would soon go out of business.

No get it right, if you go to the beginning of my thread, you will not fail to notice that from the very start my initial concerns were sidelined first by various uncalled for jibes regarding colour, which without any intervention from me were removed by the Answerbank team of controllers.

Then there were such answers as these, "Its nothing new just being reported more by trashy papers"!

"My sister was attacked at 16 in the darkest depths of Norfolk - it wasn't reported and guess what - he was White!!"

And "Such a vision of the past usually comes from wearing rose-tinted spectacles."

To which I finely replied "No such visions comes from living long enough to be able to make comparisons".

And that is how it all turned into racist accusations and a delve into the history books.

So perhaps you can now see it was not me, but others who chose to turn the thread into what it became, which is proven to be their usual tactics.
