In actual fact it is quite attractive, and most would not know what it said anyway.

/// AOG - If you wanted to erect similar-sized lettering, to the effect of, "This is the abode of Mr and Mrs Oldgit", you would be expected to acquire Planning Permission to do so. ///
Yes I suppose we would, but unlike some 'couples' we wouldn't be able to accuse the local authorities of being discriminating against us for some particular reason.

Living in a very multicultural town as I do, this would not have raised an eyebrow on me - presuming it to be a place of worship/school etc. However given the fact it is a domestic dwelling then I consider the planning laws should apply, or why cannot the residents next door have 'The house that Fred built' in similar sized letters.
To proceed with anything that requires permission and then apply in retrospect is always a risk.

If I put a flashing pentagram above my house, coupled with the wiccan crede in 2 ft letters -would I be asked to take it down? What about these silly people that cover their houses in Christmas decorations illuminated to such an extent they can be seen from space? The worst this is is bad taste and I suspect the people complaining are the local NIMBY's
