\\\\Business consultant Mr Ali has also applied for permission to illuminate the sign in low voltage lighting.\\\

That is the bit that would worry me......Christmas lights everyday of the year. I would not like to be a neighbour and experience that everyday.
I agree with the council in that it is a residence and not a Mosque.

Well I wouldn't want to live next to what appears to be advertising for an Islamic Brothel or the local goat-curry restaurant.
I wouldn't call it obtrusive - just misleading. Anyone could be forgiven for thinking the place is a mosque or some sort of centre for Islamic studies. Ultimately the owner has to abide by the rules, just like everyone else.
/// The property is domestic property and is not a mosque where such signs might be expected. ///

Give it time.
DT...aaaagh!....a brothel, in which case i would have no objection providing there were discounts for local residents.
That about sums it up Naomi.
We should not allow private houses to be daubed with slogans. Before we know it, we will end up like Londonderry. I agree with the local planners. It should not be allowed and it should be taken down.
PMSL @ sqad....you superficial old dog you ;-)
It certainly isnt in keeping with the architecture

The sign under the arch says :
La illah allah wa Mohd rasoulihi - There is no God but God and M is his prophet

The one on the right as you look at it says ya-allah - Oh God
and the one on the let as you look at it says: ya rasoul allah - Oh prophet of God ! and I cant quite do the one on the top

Do you remember when Rihanna was running through a field in Ireland without much on ? The farmer chucked them off his land
but significantly on the side of the farmer's barn was a quotation from John. I am the light and the life I think.

I am not sure.....

I don't see how it is any different to having a St George's flag hanging outside your home

Nor do I. I suppose calling your house Dunroamin is "advertising" that you have retired.

I thought 'Dunroamin' meant that the occupier only provided sex at home now.

McDonalds have to have planning permission for the design of their outlets, including signage, which is why some, such as the one near the market in Cambridge, are not readily recognisable as McDonalds. The Council requires the outllet to be in keeping with the area.

Whatever a house name, this householder’s message is not one the postman needs to know.
Looks pretty naff to me, and not really in keeping with the architecture or the residential area.
perhaps they think it might encourage the faithful to come and pray,
got to admit the pad looks like a mosque, has it got a minaret on the top i wonder.
flashing lights outside won't do much for the neighbours i suspect..
I suspect that not too many people would even notice it (apart from close neighbours that is). From the comments given it would appear that only one person (so far) can even read what it says. Doesn't look the least bit offensive to me even though green is not my favourite colour. Lighting it up at night is quite another matter.
AOG - If you wanted to erect similar-sized lettering, to the effect of, "This is the abode of Mr and Mrs Oldgit", you would be expected to acquire Planning Permission to do so.
If the guy wants folk to think he lives in a down-market casino, what's the problem?
Muslim don't gamble, at least that is what they tell people, we know different..
The trouble is *Precedents*.
If you allow this chap to have his message, you then have given tacit approval to everyone else in the area to similarly adorn their properties.
