News on BBC has said that it appeared the dogs had attacked her after a friend she had gone to visit had popped out for a few minutes.

We had a cross Bull Mastiff/GSD when we were young - he was a big powerful dog.

Poor girl - I don't know the answer to this problem. No doubt banning dogs will be suggested by some but banning Idiots would be more sensible.

More seriously, it's up there with that awful story yesterday of a young kid in a buggy being blown into the street by the wind and then getting hit by a vehicle.

Mick, We keep 4 dogs, and that may well increase in numbers, nothing wrong with the amount of dogs apart from the environment they are kept in, the type of dogs and the level of training given to the dogs and the attitude of the owner. Something here was clearly lacking!!

The photos appearing show dogs of the mastiff and bull terrier type. That fits the macho idiot type of owner. They are not in the market for retrievers!

Trouble is that all dogs have a pack mentality, however tiny or innocent they are normally. If this poor girl was bitten by one for whatever reason, the others would pile in. Unpleasant if they are cocker spaniels, potentially fatal if they are bred and physically equipped as guard dogs, or fighting dogs.

true, grumpy, a bit like the death of the woman at the King Harry Ferry down here, her hubbie getting out of the car on the ramp down, probably the handbrake not properly on, the car rolling into 35 ft of water straight down (2 days ago).

DTC, the poor little mite that got blown into the road lived just down the road from where I work. I can't imagine what their families must be going through.

these things happen and are genuine accidents...there was a near miss in Weston or was it Devon recently with the wind blowing a buggy over into the harbour....the baby is only alive due to the immense bravery of a local fisherman/lifeboatman and the ability for young bodies to shut down and save themselves.

What the parents were doing, taking a wee one in her chariot along the pier with seawater crashing around and 50mph+ winds is another matter.....blitzed perhaps?

A baby buggy being blown into the path of a van is a tragic accident, a silly old bloke not putting the hand brake on and car roles into the sea is a tragic accident.

Dogs mauling a girl to death isn't a tragic accident.
