And if some Polish people are returning home, then what benefits ultimately did they bring in the first place, our economy may be improving slightly, theirs is getting better, so off they go, what a laugh to say that more and more immigration is good for Britain. if you stay for a year, perhaps two, then once your country's economy is much better than the host country, you dump them. it's not people who are settling into UK permanently is it. Those who in the past made valuable contributions, settled, raised families, became part of the communities and integrated into British society, it doesn't seem as though that is what happens now.
We are part of Europe for goodness sakes, when will that sink in with all of the little Englanders? We are ALL free to live and work ANYWHERE in the EU, which suits a lot of younger people who perhaps are under represented on Answerbank. England is not the centre of the universe for everyone whatever you might think.
Shari... Nowt to do with the slur of little englanders. It is to do with being realistic. We do not have infinite services, housing, land et al to deal with our own population now without adding to it from anywhere in the world. Please look at all sides not just from how it pleases some and those who disagree are not the enemies afaic.
It is however a fact Daisya that a lot of people are happy to ignore key facts regarding EU migration because it suits their own perspective and that is very frustrating. For example the Institute for Public Policy Reasearch in Poland estimates that appproximately half of all Poles who came to the UK since 2004 have returned home- but no amount of statistical fact will persuade some people of that, it's merely a 'drop in the ocean' etc. because that's what suits their viewpoint.

it pisses me off quite frankly being called little Englanders, assuming that it's only the English have a problem, or that no one in Norway, Sweden, France, Germany has problems with immigration into their countries, because i am pretty sure many do. Some countries may need new blood, but as dear Angela Merkel has said any number of times the problems they have with the people who have gone to Germany to work, but have not integrated in the way she expected, makes her worry, surprise surprise. If Frau Merkel can say this so can anyone,
i know this is from wiki, but it's the quickest info to find. it doesn't suit some to keep banging on about it, however our cities are taking a battering, and those who live in the sticks, or outside of the mainstream of our bigger cities, towns, wouldn't have a clue how big an impact mass immigration has been, as they don't necessarily see the results or the downside. I see what it's doing to the capital, not just with Polish, but Romanians, and many more besides, housing at a premium, large scale unemployment, and jobs that are getting harder and harder to get.

zeuhl, you got out, and yes i did understand, i am trying to get though to some who don't actually see the impact, and don't actually care. UK can only support so many, we are still in an economic slump, though the latest figures seem a little more upbeat, but until we really turn the corner economically speaking, we shouldn't be importing more people. Certainly not more unskilled, we have enough of those already.

but if Poles come here with skills and work (and the evidence is that the vast majority fit that description)
in what way is the country 'supporting' them?
and aren't they contributing to the economy?
this is a free market economy isn't it?
or are you arguing for more state regulation of our economy?
