"It really gets up my nose when people who express a concern about immigration levels are labelled Little Englanders."

oh dont worry thats nothing, it will get worse, you will regularly get called racist a facist, a knuckledragger etc etc etc for daring to say what a blight mass immigration is on this country
Croatia celebrates joining the EU, while Spain regrets it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23064490

I wonder how long before Croatia regrets it. After all the EU hand-outs stop I suppose.
As much as I abhor the EU itself, Spain's particular problems stem not from its membership of the EU but from its participation in the project which has caused more harm than all other EU projects put together - namely the single currency.

This project - against which its architects were warned of its potential perils long before its introduction - has caused untold misery and penury for the citizens of all the "PIIGS" nations. Croatia will, as a new EU member, have no option but to adopt the euro. Since Euro fanatics seem to learn nothing from their mistakes no doubt the Croats will be given far too many euros for their kunas and then be encouraged to borrow vast sums which they will be told to spend on German goods. Soon after that they will be unable to repay their debts and unable to manipulate their exchange or interest rates.

Still, they can always get some advice from their Greek neighbours on how to handle such a crisis.
as much as i love Greece, and the people, i wouldn't trust them as far as oh tony blair, as to Spain look at the high levels of unemployment of young people, they are struggling as much as the Greeks, and no one wouldn't take their advice on fiscal matters. This EU madness is never ending.
"Little Englander

noun

(esp in the 19th century) a person opposed to the extension of the British Empire
(British, informal) a person who perceives most foreign influences on Britain's culture and institutions as damaging or insidious

(Collins Dictionary)"

Your point being?

moi??
Zeuhl.

I don't understand the reason for the dictionary definition he posted.

People who express a concern about mass immiigration is not supported by the definition of Little Englander he posted.
The term ‘Little Englander’ used in the context that it has been used here is an insult. It directly implies xenophobia and therefore maligns anyone who, understandably, expresses concern that ever-increasing immigration into this country is becoming a burden upon its infrastructure and, hence, its well-being. Such language in this instance is presumptuous, ignorant, and arrogant.
Shouldn't we be welcoming these people, if they do decide to come ? Won't they be filling vacancies in our job markets that the long-term British unemployed can't or won't fill themselves ?

Why can't our people do these jobs, that the foreigners are taking ? Could it be that they are better off scrounging off the rest of us tax payers ?
mikey, where are these jobs you and other go on about, not to mention the fact most of those unemployed are young people, shouldn't they be given a chance before newcomers.
back up your idea they are all scroungers please, because going on my own experience most are not. Certainly not those i have come across, young, old, older, looking for work
If there are people scrounging off of us tax payers then they should be made to take jobs IF there are any going, before we even consider immigrants IMO.
too late, EU says otherwise remember...
Daisy, and that applies to UK residents first, not only to the immigrant population....
boxy
daisy was referring to the British i believe.

by the way, many unemployed may not have always been so, so why do people insist on calling them scroungers, councils are shedding jobs, as are any number of businesses, some which have folded in recent days, big business is also not immune... so those people had jobs, now don't.

LOL, where are they ?, probably in that place called Jeopardy.
Agree em I was answering mikeys post mentioning people may be scroungers.
daisy, i know...
by the way, having been hauled by the ankle to the job centre, i can testify that all sorts go there, strange that, not just British...
It is not just about jobs here is it (for those intent on welcoming more immigrants). It is about housing, medical services, schooling, water, electricity etc etc ...we can't keep up now, how on earth will it pan out in the future adding more population! I dread to think of the consequences for the future generation here on this island
