I'd just like to wish everyone "Joyeux Quatorze"
and recommend a hilarious book called " A thousand years of annoying the French", by Stephen Clarke. Available on certain internet book sales sites
The book sounds like a comic mockery of the French but is, in fact, a serious analysis of French history, but delivered in a plain, sometimes humorous manner. He spends quite a lot of it in debunking myths about, say, Joan of Arc, and a bit of it in educating the British about how the French think. Well worthwhile, on both counts.
As an Irish Francophile I can't see the point of any sort of Bastille Day greetings on here. England and France seem consistently to be at daggers drawn and I'm proud to be well out of it ;-)
