I didn't think calling a black person coloured was racism?
Not sure what else the women said on the phone, but it seems very petty to me.

Also, £80 a week seems a lot for one person in her mid 70s!

/// Douglas Bader the air ace had a black labby called n+gger. ///

That was Guy Gibson of Dambuster fame.
Thankfully, things have changed in the 70 years since then.
Why wouldn't Pakistanis object to being described as Indian? They're not, neither are Bangladeshis who are also often referred to as Pakistani or Indian.
Asian is the correct umbrella term.
Can artists still buy n****r brown paint? It was certainly in my paint box when I was a child.
you can probably use "South Asian" for what used to be called the Indian subcontinent - Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan.

At one time one could buy Cherry Blossom n****r brown shoe polish.
Amazing on this web site there are 86 different names to call anyone of mixed race.

No he didn't.

Guy Penrose Gibson did.
OOOPs! sorry AOG........didn't see that you had beaten me to it.
It took a very long time to stop my later mother-in-law from using the 'N' word. We never managed to convince her that 'black' was ok, but 'coloured' was unacceptable. To her mind 'black' was offensive.
In France black people also use the word Black and not Noir. I don't know why and when I ask neither do they... I also don't know as what point a black person is no longer considered black. I know a family very well; the mother is of mixed race and the father white. The children have no black features but are considered black! If they have children to white spouses will they still be considered black? Also Barack Obama is as much white as he is black but considered the first black president of the USA; sometimes I don't get it!

and some of you lot are still trying to work out if the word coloured is offensive, out of fashion, racist etc etc.....truly pathetic and hilarious a the same time
"Also Barack Obama is as much white as he is black but considered the first black president"

that depends on your agenda
"It's not racist to use the word 'coloured' to describe people of Afro-Caribbean descent. It just outdated"

there you have it the definitive explanation from guess who ?

my kids tell me some of my clothes are outdated...doesnt stop me wearing them though
Yes, baz, a mass stabbing in New York is more important than whether 'coloured' is racist but the Daily Mail thinks the story which gives rise to the latter question is important enough to print, so who are we to argue about the significance?

And President Obama looks black to me. It is what he looks like, not what his parentage is, that matters; I have a black bitch whose sire was white, but nobody would call her a white dog or doubt that she is really black, and the same must apply to humans.

You know what they say Baz, keep a thing long enough and sooner or later it will come back into fashion.
FredPuli43

i wonder how long it will be before it will be offensive to call a female dog 'a bitch'?
It will never be offensive to call a female dog a bitch, for that is the correct term.
It is always offensive to call a person a bitch
"but the Daily Mail thinks the story which gives rise to the latter question is important enough to print, so who are we to argue about the significance? "

are you not able to think for yourself and decide whats is or isnt significant then ?
