Not sure what else the women said on the phone, but it seems very petty to me.

Also, £80 a week seems a lot for one person in her mid 70s!

Ah but then they do don't they? Embarrass themselves that is, have they ever thought what they look like with their oversized 'baseball caps' on with the peak to the back or to the side, and what about those jeans with the crutch almost dragging on the floor.

Isn't it all getting rather silly? I mean arguing the toss about what might be deemed offensive what might not. It's like everyone is jumping around on hot coals, frightened they might use the wrong word just to describe someone of a certain ethnic origin. It all depends how old you are and what era you were brought up in. For goodness sake if no insult was intended then leave it at that. There will always be trouble makers looking to be offended on behalf of others where no offence is meant or exists. Don't give them the satisfaction.

AOG, if you didn't look an embarrassment to the older generation when you were young, you really haven't lived ! Mine was wide flares on a business suit, which flapped quite loudly if I walked quickly; not readily accepted by my seniors in the corridors of the High Court ! Looking back, I can see how odd it must have been, but at least it was fashionable (and the only fashionable attire I have ever worn)

On another track £80 a week is probably not just for food, Sainsbury's sell all sorts of stuff. The £80 could include toiletries and household items even clothes. I work in a retirement home and we have to make allowances for some of our elderly clients, they sometimes say things that are not 'politically correct' without meaning offence.
