Good Gongs For Once
I hate this time of year, when the Civil Service give each other awards, and Shaftesbury Avenue becomes even more "lovey" than usual. But here is one that would appear to be worth it ::

>>>Good Gongs For Once
Generally the only ones we hear about are the people who are in the public eye.
But every year there are hundreds and hundreds of "gongs" given out to people that most of us have never heard of and don't know what they do.
A lady in my area, who had run a dance school for young children for about 20 years, got an MBE a few years ago.
She gave many young children and teenagers a chance to dance (many who have gone on to dance for a career) and did concerts to raise money for charity.
She was a quiet shy woman who did NOT do it for fame or to get a "gong".
And she is just an example of the hundreds of people who get gongs for their work in local areas.
But then it is just easier to "rant" about "just a DJ" getting an award isn't it.

In a way I agree boxie especially when I see some of the things that the government spend our money on but you have to measure the disadvantages.As one crew member I know says "I can just imagine some *** stood at the top of the slip doing a safety audit before we can launch while some poor bastard is drowning"
What about this a knighthood for helping to deliver a Royal baby?

VHG...I am not sure what is misunderstood about this post that I started ?
I am very much in favour of people like your local lady getting an appropriate gong. We need to know more about these people, as they are the backbone of our the nicer part of our society. But I don't understand why DJs and other get gongs, when they just appear to be doing their jobs. I used Tong as an example. I wish him no harm but there are countless others like him each year. I just want somebody to explain why people like this deserve gongs ?
Here's another one ::

I would expect that these plastic toys are made in China, so this chap can hardly be rewarded for boosting Britains exports.
Why is he being honoured ? What is special about inventing a plastic toy ?

The difficulty Bluetoffee is that is difficult to sort the wheat out from the chaff. Despite what I have said this morning, I suspect there are many real people who deserve awards, that actually are given....not sure on the percentage though. My original post mentioned the Life Boats. I am positive that this chap isn't the first, or the last person involved with the Life Boats that has got an award, but just not enough of them perhaps.
