Where is his father?
Why would a child of that age get dressed in his coat, gloves and shoes?
How did he manage to open a strong closing door?
Why did his mum last check him at 9pm, unless of course she went to bed herself at that early time?

But Chewn gets a rollicking by asking "do you really want us to guess?" shouldn't it be the OP who gets a rollicking for headlining his thread with such an insensitive question. after all, there are only so many options before you are faced with the elephant in the room.
The most obvious options are - he has left of his own accord and got lost,a family member (dad?) has taken him or a stranger has taken him. Does that answer it, chewn?
I sincerely hope it's a family member, as he is more likely to be safe, although the mum must be tearing her hair out, not knowing. I can't think of anything worse. Fwiw, i only check on my children once asleep if they're not well. Otherwise, they will let me know.

/// a potential sighting near his home at 8.30am yesterday. information helpline 0300 200 0200. ///
Yes I read this earlier and thought why didn't the motorist stop and held him until they called the helpline, but then what could one do in such circumstances, what would you have done?

*** "The witnesses were in a vehicle driving down West Pilton Gardens at the time they saw the boy. They described seeing a small boy on the right hand side pavement running towards the junction with West Pilton Park. ***
*** "They noticed him because he was small in build and alone at the time. ***

I have just had 2 plain clothed policemen at my door asking how to get into the garages and bike stores at the back of my flat. I live nowhere near where he vanished from but they must be checking absolutely everywhere. There is a massive police presence all over the city tonight.
I hope the wee soul is found safe and well. :(
