/// He and his clients have chosen their moment well. The global triumph of the movie 12 Years A Slave has thrust the sufferings of millions of Africans to the forefront of public attention, awakening many consciences about the crimes committed in the name of European and American civilisation. ///

Why should this country or any other country for that matter pay out compensation for something that happened hundreds of years ago?

/// Slavery was an unspeakably evil commerce. But many societies across the world — the ‘Land of the Free’ foremost among them — were in it up to their necks, as were a host of African tribal chieftains and Arab traders. ///

/// Britain is today at the top of the Caribbean nations’ hit-list chiefly because our government and judges are thought to be the softest touch on earth, as indeed they are. ///

Huh???

I've heard that he had a thing about Uma's feet (which is odd in itself because I've seen her feet in real life - they're HUGE).

I wasn't aware his interest extended beyond those of Ms Thurman...
in case anyone is bothered, interested, they are re running the series "Roots", forget which channel, there are more n words in that which haven't curiously been blooped out, than i care to hear.
as to tarantino, he is an acquired taste. As to the slavery and reparation issue, i can't see it happening, nor should it.
emmie

I might give Roots a look, but I suspect it might be hideously dated.

They should repeat Dynasty. That would get some decent ratings.
its still relevant, and pertinent to this thread. I watched some but the sight of slaves being lashed, hung, and being called n this and n that, and calling each other the same had me reaching for the off button. The book had more of an impact when i read it years ago. As do works by Maya Angelou.

/// I think I know which one you will choose. ///

I don't think you do, because since you are now becoming so repetitive boring and also extreamly insulting I will now cease debating with you any longer.

Repetitive and boring?

Oh the irony.

If I've caught you out on yet another one of your fumbled-headed threads, man-up and say so. In your position I would.

But then again, I'm not in the habit of posting threads that the entire cast of Alice In Wonderland would describe as 'weird'.

I'll happily chalk this one up as a win to me.

Until the next time you post a thread about '12 Years A Slave'.

My calculations say that should be in about fifteen days.

Looking forward to it...
emmie

No, I don't mean that 'Roots' is irrelevant, or not pertinent to this thread (although AOG might argue that the film isn't under discussion, despite him introducing it in the question). I just feel that as a piece of film-making, it may have dated, like so many films and TV series from the 70s, compared to their equivalents now.

Fair play, so I've also donated.
lol, an AB thumbs-up for sp's 20:12 post.
sp,
Just so you're forewarned about the Roots/12 Years A Slave comparison, here is something I've posted before, from Wiki:

The reviewers of Spill.com gave it high acclaim as well, with two reviewers giving it a "Better Than Sex," their highest rating. However, the reviewers agreed that it was not a film they would watch again anytime soon. When comparing it to the miniseries version of Roots, reviewer Cyrus stated that "Roots is The Care Bears Movie in comparison to this."

Having seen both (though Roots was some time ago, granted) I'd pretty much go along with that assessment.
