By the way...the way we consume animals halal and non-halal is pretty horrific.
I find it difficult to point at halal slaughterhouses, because I know exactly how our chicken (non-halal) products are produced.
I know that your run-of-the-mill supermarket roaster has been injected wth growth hormones to ensure it grows to 'full' weight in 16 weeks. And in that time, their breasts grow so large, that they cannot support themselves.
The barns that they 'live' in will have a number of dead chickens being trampled underneath, and legally the amount of room set aside for each chicken is the size of a sheet of A4 paper.
This wasn't always the way. It's down to the industrialisation of the farming industry, and because we have now gotten used to being able to buy a large chicken for a fiver.
Halal is pretty horrific, but if we look at one part of our industry, we should look at all animal mistreatment.
