wolf, such support could never be given by a charity as it would be very difficult if not impossible for a charity to raise money to help paedophiles.

I'm not sure that any non-offending paedophile would trust support provided by the government. Admitting to being a paedophile to a government body could have long reaching consequences that last a life time.

There is no real evidence that removal of the testes would stop men being paedophiles. It might work if the castration was done just before puberty but that is highly impracticable, as well as probably illegal.

My knowledge of castration isn't terribly in depth, but my understanding is, if it is done later in life, enough Testosterone is stored in the muscles of a man's body and still leaves him capable of having sexual relations. But sexual abuse isn't always about self-gratification. Its about control over victims, amongst other things.

It became the fashion for boys to be castrated before puberty begun, in the 1700's, in Italy. They were called Castrati and had magnificent voices for use in the Opera. But if all the stories are to be believed, it certainly didn't stop them from being involved in scandalous love affairs !

That's enough about castration for one night I think...I am beginning to feel a little uncomfortable and queasy for some strange reason !

anne, there are many reasons why forced castration may not work - some men will still get erections and some abusers don't abuse for sexual gratification so any object will do.

That's true Mikey. I can't find the research now but it was discovered that when WW2 pilots were injured by ground to air fire, which often resulted in castration, by and large, the men who believed they would still be capable of erection and sex were, and the men who thought they would not still be capable were not. Its also pretty well documented that dogs who are castrated as adults are also sometimes still able to perform sexually although, of course they are sterile.

And of course testosterone replacement is readily available which could reverse the effect of castration on sexual desire if taken in enough quantities

My brother is a maintenance engineer at Bedford jail. Bedford is the 'holding jail' for East Anglia. ( where prisoners are sent first 'held' after conviction before their permanent jail is selected)
He has seen this doctor there and tells me everyone is out to get him, he is being held in solitary for his own protection, locked up 24 hours a day . They have put him on 'suicide watch' , being a doctor they are scared he will find a way to kill himself. They even have to check his food in case the kitchen staff (most of whom are prisoners) try to poison him. Razor blades in his food is another way they will try to get him.

Every criminal, whether thief or murderer, likes to feel superior to somebody else. It justifies their existence - "well, I might have murdered my wife but at least I never messed with kiddies," sort of logic - and excuses (in their minds) brutal and barbaric behaviour.
