I don't care for any religion but respect individuals rights to practice their faith but this is too much and does indeed look menacing/intimidating and inherently wrong in Western society:
Yes.
I got moaned at for wearing shorts in Jordan. Obvious there was nothing to hide, as opposed to a burka which can hide weapons as well as sex of occupier. When in Rome........
"It is also interesting to note that since the whole debate re the Burkha etc, more and more young women are choosing to wear it. "
Indeed so. And many more "traditional Moslems" frown at it.
I have had arguments with Moslems who want to ban the wretched thing themselves, using the arguments of common sense above - because it boils down to that in the end
The hajib is a scarf which leaves the face uncovered. The niqab is a veil which covers the face apart from the eyes. The only word I can think of to describe the burka is a "onesie".
Well that's subjective and down to the individuals own fears and anxiety.

It's certainly upsetting and scary when seen by young children.
I remember 45 years ago working in a very smart dept. store in Oxford Street , you know the one, and when the women arrived in Burkas, we had to keep our eyes pealed ( peeled ?)
