For 18 months you expressed some concern about a large influx of immigrants from Romania & Bulgaria much to the mirth of some ABers. In view of this week's figures that 187,000 have indeed flooded in from those 2 countries in 12 months, are you happy that you were proved right and 'the usual suspects' have a great deal of egg on their faces. Or does it just deepen your original concerns.

There does seem to be a multitude of self-loathing anti-Brits on this site!

mildly so, more than his views.....
Ah,dont be so nasty,DT.I would rather describe myself as a George Orwell after he returned from the Spanish civil war,he went out there as a commited socialist,he returned as an anti-fascist,anti-communist pro-British patriot.
if you think that's nasty, you're in for a shock around here, ic! (lol) - and then there is R&S, another level!

I describe myself as a Patten wet.....conservative but pro European and some shades of civil duty befitting liberalism, that being my family background as fundamental Methodists once. Personally, I follow Einstein's views on religion, a waste of time on Earth as it just explains the unexplainable though useful for its so called ethical codes.
LOL. If you're a Patten wet then I'm a Powell dry.
which one?

I met Enoch - he picked up on my tie from the Royal Geog Society straight away.....
' There's only one Enoch Powell...'
When I am gone, remember me

When I am gone, remember me,
Not often. But when in the east
Grey light is growing, and the mind
With fears and hope is clouded least.
Then in the hour that I love best,
And where I still reflected find,
All that I ever sought to be,
Now who wrote this?

I will return to you as one
New risen from the grave, as clear
As now you see me and as dear
As when I slept beneath your breast

Before I saw the sun.
who wrote that?
sorry - ignore the line 'Now who wrote this'
Well if you guys(gals) don't mind,i think I will stick to Eric Arthur Blair.
That was Enoch, reading Ancient Greek at 5 and at 70 on his 12th language, Hebrew, poems written to his wife for her birthday......
Not that anyone is interested, but I once holidayed on the isle of jura at the farmhouse where he wrote 1984...Never again...that farmhouse is so haunted. If your a ghosthunter I recommend that ghost-ridden place.
Professor of Greek at an Australian university at the age of 26, which he gave up to enlist in the army on the outbreak of war as a private, rising to the rank of brigadier in 6 short years. During his finals at university he walked out of a 3 hour exam after 1½ hours. When asked later how he could accomplish a translation in so short a time, he replied."I gave them two, one in the style of Heroditus and another in the style of Thucydides". What a genius.
