Like something from 1950s USA. In todays inclusive society it was a very strange trick to pull - the bouncers must've know there would be repercussions as this type of behaviour is very newsworthy.

But nightclubs have had the power to refuse entry to groups of males with absolutely no comeback. Had this happen to me several times when out even in a small group of 4 or 5. Is this wildly different from the scenario in the link?

Compare and contrast from ANOTHEOLDGIT

August 2009 "It would seem inconceivable (if not illegal) for a bar or any other establishment, who had had trouble in the past say, with a few ethnic minorities, or gays etc to ban all those that fit into these groups."

May 2015, "Still doesn't prove anything, perhaps there had been trouble in the past with either the same group or blacks on the whole."
Ah !

You are on form today Corby !
Khandro

If I were you, I'd watch the video, and then form an opinion based on what you see.

You asked:

Q.1 Why did the Independent say 'Seems to say'.?
A.1 I have no idea. I am not Alexander Ward and have no access to the Independent's editorial polices.

Q.2 Were there any black people inside ?
Q.2 I do not know, but that's not relevant. The club spokesman has said that it does not operate with a race bar - this is about one particular doorman. Therefore, this is about the doorman. If there were indeed black patrons inside the club, perhaps a different doorman was working when they arrived. It's impossible to determine that.

Q.3 Were groups of white youths given access after this incident?
Q.3 I don't know, because not only am I not Alexander Ward, I was not at the club on the night. All I have to go on was what the doorman said to the group.

I think it should be stressed...some people are racist. It's a fact of life and rather than trying to constantly find alternative explanations for racism, we should acknowledge it exists, only then can it be tackled.
THECORBYLOON

Is that the thread about the bar who had a ban on soldiers?

I was going to refer to that thread myself, because it displays a markedly different attitude to the one we're seeing today.

Can anyone in the class see what the difference is, in this case?

Hands up, if you know.
SP it was a similar thread from ANOTHEOLDGIT, http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question793013.html, soldiers in uniform had been attending a funeral.
"Can anyone in the class see what the difference is, in this case? "

Skin colour, by any chance????
Class, lol. Very appropriate.
//Mr Orah said he was in a group of four men - two black and two white.//

I wonder if the white men were admitted?
I'm not convinced by the video that the doorman actually said that to them.

// I'm not convinced by the video that the doorman actually said that to them. //

Neither am I. It's a snippet of a long tape which is clearly designed to present the case for 'bouncer is a racist'. There's a lot of talk in the background, and it wasn't clear to me who's question he was answering.
I've been stopped from going into clubs before for no good reason , and I'm not black.
Don't spoil it for them, Ludwig. You know how they enjoy prancing about on their high horses.
I agree ludwig, the only victim here is the doorman, he fell victim to the "Is it because we're black" question which was thrown in as he was talking.

If Ali G got a pound in royalties every time someone used that question he'd be a billionaire
PankySmooch

You're so right.

If someone thinks they are being mistreated because of their race, they should silently accept it and not cause any embarrassment to the suspected racist.

Oh how I wish for the days when black people knew their place!

(presses 'sarcasm' button, and walks away sadly shaking head)
I there is one thing I despise more than a racist, it's a racist that says they are not a racist.

I can't believe a nightclub would have a 'no blacks' policy. My money is on the bouncer being racist.
*if*
SP, get real, the doorman never said those words to him, Mr Orah shouted "Is it because we're black" while he was talking to them.

If he did say it why didn't they show the entire video or carry on filming and get the full conversation?

Well done to Mr Orah for playing the race card and no doubt pocketing a few quid from The Sun for his non story

The bouncer is a cowardly racist.
There is only half a story here, as mentioned the door chap's version of events needs to be heard before accusing people (if anyone is really interested).
But why would he say that? Not only would he be putting his job in jeopardy – Leicester has a huge black community. These people can’t have been the first black men he'd encountered that night. It makes no sense.
