Cloverjo "Isn't this analogous to Jehovah's Witnesses refusing a life-saving blood transfusion for their desperately sick child?"

In some respects, yes. Just another sick practice carried out by the religious, allowing a person to die for another ridiculous belief!!
RATTER15 - //So Andy, you choose to insult me, thats fine, I can rise above that, but just tell me that I am wrong, and tell me what other religion or culture this behaviour is typical of!//

Actually, I didn't insult you, I ridiculed your viewpoint, which is not the same thing.

And in response to your point - this is not 'typical behaviour' of Muslims - and there is nothing in the report to suggest that this man is a Muslim.

If he turned out to be an extreme believer of another faith - Sikism for example, your statement would collapse.

That is why I take issue with sweeping unfounded statements - but I only take issue with the statement, not with you.
Clover...close. In this situation though it would go against all parental instincts to watch your child drown. Refusing blood is at least in a clinical situation with a small amount of time to make decisions. Drowning is instant....has to be acted on immediately.

ladybirder - //What do you think the reason was he let her drown Andy? //

I think the reason is as stated - the man's religious beliefs meant that his daughter's death before dishonour was a valid mind set for him.
A religious mindset validates action. How very inclusive.
Jesus Andy I am not letting my kids go swimming with you

[OK go swimming when you are on the beach - can you carry a red flag please ? for identification purposes only ]
Naomi - //andy-hughes, //And today's Award for the most simplistic uneducated unfounded glib and pointless response goes to ...//

Ratter’s remark is none of those things. He’s right.//

Neither you, or I, or indeed Ratter know this man's religious convictions, so it is perfectly possible that he is not right at all. His statement is based on a sweeping statement without thought, or evidence, castigating an entire faith on the basis of the bizarre behaviour of (possibly but not proven!) one of its adherents.

//I find it very difficult to believe that anyone is finding justification for this in any way whatsoever. //

So do I - but I see no evidence of justification - merely explanation, which is not the same thing.
douglas //A religious mindset validates action. How very inclusive. //

I don't think anyone is suggesting that this man's actions are validated by his beliefs, merely explained by them.
Peter Pedant - //Jesus Andy I am not letting my kids go swimming with you

[OK go swimming when you are on the beach - can you carry a red flag please ? for identification purposes only ] //

Not for the first time, I am baffled by your response.

I would not allow anyone to drown - I am unfettered by any religious restrictions of any kind.

What is your point?
whats the point of having children if you arent going to protect them when they are in trouble. I assume the father couldnt swim or shouldnt he have attempted to save her - I know I would have if it was my daughter.
I see you're in your element right now. I won't feed your need.
Andy, in the last year or so, your "hair splitting" posts have been getting very tiresome, IN MY OPINION!

Time to get over yourself!
douglas - //I see you're in your element right now. I won't feed your need. //

Not sure if that is aimed at me - ?

But if it is, I have no 'need', but thanks for your concern.
andy-hughes, Dream on.
RATTER - //Andy, in the last year or so, your "hair splitting" posts have been getting very tiresome, IN MY OPINION!

I don't see in what way you perceive that I an splitting hairs - do please expand for clarification.

Thank you.
Naomi - //andy-hughes, Dream on. //

About what - ?
andy-hughes, About whatever you like - as you usually do.
Naomi - //andy-hughes, About whatever you like - as you usually do. //

I have no idea what you are talking about!
Why is it, that on all "discussion" sites a reasonable request for comment deteriorates into a slanging match. If you want free speech accept the fact that you may not always agree with the other persons point of view.
Difficult......very difficult.....but i need to come down on the opinions and post of andy-hughes.

Islam is a club, it has it's rules.........rigid and inflexible as they seem and most Muslims are brought up obeying the rules of such a club. Christianity and Catholicism are also clubs whose rules seem to be "watered down" obeyed and disobeyed by convenience.

Schools have rules......again diluted by modern thinking and ideas.

Jehovah witnesses ...."brain washed " from birth as have most beliefs ...difficult to debate and modify.

Homosexuality........difficult for the older generation to accept as it was regarded as "dirty", illegal and perverted.

All these examples are human trends....human beliefs....human failings perhaps.

This chap didn't get it wrong and he could justify his actions.
