.\\\.but i need to come down on the opinions and post of andy-hughes. \\\\

Sorry..that was badly written.....I meant that I agree with the posts of A-H.
Thanks Sqad!
//Islam is a club, it has it's rules.........rigid and inflexible as they seem and most Muslims are brought up obeying the rules of such a club.//

hey you're not wrong, here's an example of another, erm, practice that they seem to have adopted, and one which is illegal in most countries but unenforced in many - although in this case public opinion seems to have moved the authorities to act...

Barbaric. And women are involved.

There you go again Andy, dishing your insults out, something that you are always trying to correct others for.

And to be fair RATTER15 was stating fact, yes he was a Muslim, and are not Muslims liable to get their priorities wrong at times, taking into consideration that they give their religion priority over most things.

/// I am sure there are a vast variety of little-known religious sects in the world that carry to extreme the overwhelming ethos of most mainstream religions, and Christianity is right up there - that women are second-class citizens. ///

Trying to move the goalposts are we, in your relentless persuit not to have the Muslim faith criticised?

This story concerns a Muslim get over it, it does not involve, other little-known religious sects in the world, Christianity or even any other well know religions.

AOG, "yes he was a Muslim..."
Was he? Where does it say that?
Indeed Sandy.

My whole issue with Ratter's post (and not Ratter, despite AOG's attempts to make this personal) - is that it is based on information he does not possess - namely the religious affiliations of the man concerned.

He may well be a Muslim - but equally, he may not, so to denigrate an entire faith on the basis of the actions of one misguided individual is fundamentally wrong, and I questioned it accordingly.

As I have already pointed out, I take issue with Ratter's viewpoint only.

It is not a fact - at least not on the basis of Sandy's link which is what we are all referring to as our source of information.

I don't know that it does - and at the time of writing - neither do you.
AOG. In what way is it 'fact' that this man is a Muslim? Doesn't say that in the article, merely that the man was Asian.
I suspect that this father is Muslim for the simple reason that if he wasn’t I don’t believe the authorities would have had any hesitation in disclosing his reasons for allowing his daughter to die. Bad publicity for Islam isn’t an attractive prospect in a city like Dubai.

I don't know how any parent could let their daughter die. He put his beliefs before the life of his child. He did what I expect he was brought up to believe in. He has to live with that for the rest of his life.

Do I think he was right? No I don't, a child's life should always be a priority.
Divebuddy, I have to say I wondered why the father couldn’t have been constrained whilst the lifeguards did their job.
I would have thought at least one of the lifeguards could have managed to get in the water and save her.
Okay andy,

name any three non-Muslim religions, prevalent on the Arabian peninsular, which specify this stuff about not allowing your daughter to be touched by men she doesn't know?

(I'm about to read Sandy's link. Before I read the replies I thought this was going to be an extreme case of molester fear).

If his belief is that strong that he would let his daughter drown rather than some stranger touch her, why did he let her go swimming in public in the first place. Was she fully covered..? It Just doesn't sound right
-- answer removed --
In order to say that we can't suggest he was Muslim because of ambiguity about the possible religions in that region (they have a lot of immigrants building their skyscrapers, as they're all too rich to want to get their hands dirty), I feel it os only fair to let you expand on that ambiguity.

Sikhism has already been mentioned. Three more shouldn't be hard to find, for the subcontinent region.
