There are two versions of Islam Shia and Sunni. It goes back to the foundation of the religion 600 years ago. Each side regards itself as 'the true faith' they hate each other more than they hate Christians.
This is an example of anti Shia graffiti . Mosques are either Shia or Sunni .

I see what you are saying JJ; but I think there is a difference between a concern, or even a fear, and a phobia.

Religion played a part in the NI "troubles" but is considered not to be the main issue. It was mistreatment of the Catholics that led to the British army being sent in. But the two communities tended to split along many lines. I think it is little help to identify the situation with just one.

Of course it has. Like I say one influences the other. At some point the religious issues get blurred by the politics, as in Ireland, but sooner or later it becomes a question of power (if it was ever really anything else)
One faction gains primacy over the other and it becomes a political struggle as well as or instead of a religious one

Sunni & Shia Muslims have been fighting & slaughtering each other since time immoral ! so nothing new ? What is new is they are now starting in this country, do we really have to put up with this ? Surely there is some form of legislation that is designed to deal with this problem, if not then there should be to nip this in the bud before the norm sets in & it becomes too late to do anything.

There are more than two sects of Islam, there is also Sufis, Ahmadiyyas and others who are branches of Sunni and ***. That's the case with all the major religions.

Just as British expats move to Spain because they think it is just like the UK but with more sun then Pakistanis and and Bangladeshis think the UK is just like their home country but with more handouts. It must come as a shock to them when they move outside their self imposed ghettos and discover that women have rights and that the country is a democracy with laws protecting children.
