My wife was Deputy Head of an inner-city school which had a majority Muslim intake, and on occasions, boys came in with huge red welts on their feet where they had been beaten by the Imams and assistants as they knelt in prayer. My wife contacted Social Services to raise the issue, and was told that they would not go near the mosques because of the potential fall-out.
So, contrary to some perceptions here on AB, I would never dream of defending any Muslims, or indeed anyone full stop who is involved in cruelty to children.
The fact that this sadistic barbarism is rife in places of worship makes it all the more abhorrent, and the fact that those tasked with protecting children are too scared to confront the perpetrators is utterly indefensible.
That is a very interesting post for a number of reasons.

I've been here as a casual user of the site for about 7½ years and have a pretty good idea who does what, you on the other hand are by your own admission are one of The Founding Fathers who posts on here every day (again your words) and you're telling me seriously you didn't know?
Too much self-absorption imho!
British law - teachers in schools and anyone dealing with kids clubs etc: hands off kids. Do not whack, tap, push, prod, shake kick bite give chinese burns or clip upside th'ead no matter what the provocation.
Sadly those who have fended off blows from youths / youthesses attempting to assault them can find themselves accused of assault.
So no excuses at all for hitting kids for these blokes - not above the law, not allowed to do it.
Like wot Jourdain said, teachers are often at the interface of what 'communities' do and what's legal.
And craven authorities often do nowt - speaking as one who reported the betrothal of a 7 year old girl, and got mauled for me trouble.

We will have to differ on the ‘self-absorption’ aspect – so please, let’s have the benefit of what you perceive to be superior knowledge.
Tell me the occupations of the following AB’ers if you will –
Jackthehat
Caran
Ummmm
Tora Tora Tora
And myself.
Over to you …

Pre-sentence reports are prepared by the Probation service and whatever they may say in public, their brief is to keep as many offenders as possible out of prison.
Sentencing guidelines allow courts to suspend any sentence of up to two years. They are often recommended for first time offenders (as these two apparently are). The offence must qualify in all other respects for the imposition of a custodial sentence. The judge is following the sentencing guidelines.
