We don't have a choice as to whether we go to war with ISIS. They've already declared war on us, so we're at war whether we like it or not. The choice we have is whether to retaliate. Personally I say yes, but that won't bring an end to anything.

There will always be people around who want to blow stuff up and kill innocent people, just like there will always be vermin. The most you can ever do is minimise their ability to cause damage.
Svejk: "Don't like any of those choices, sorry".
...neither do I.
ludwig has expressed it exactly. They have declared war on us and have attacked us. They will continue to do so unless we stop them. This leaves us no choice, I.M.H.O., but to stop them. This equates to declaring war on them to try to stop them overrunning our civilisation and killing huge numbers of people.
That is the problem, Svejk.
The western aid workers/reporters who were beheaded by IS didn't take a chance and walk into IS central. They believed the nonsense about 'good' rebels and were promptly kidnapped, then sold/traded to IS by the vermin Cameron wants us to crawl into bed with.
Some of the French 'shopped' some 'Cockleshell Heros' to the Germans in WW2 (they were shot as spies)- as well as a lot of others and in Marseilles the police rounded up Jews and put them on the trains to Germany. It is a messy business, but we generally regarded the French as allies. I don't pretend to have the answers svejk.
“French intelligence agencies were not aware of the terrorists in their own country but their Air Force pilots are aware of every single hideout of ISIS in Syria” Someone tweeted a couple of days ago.
Svejk: they walked into areas where the rebels had pledged allegiance to IS, like Idlib where Alan Henning was picked up. The rebels in that region are islamists who were originally part of the Free Syrian Army but then defected to IS. It is the Kurds that we are "in bed with" and they are not islamists. They are IS's main local enemy now. On the day of the vote it was in the news about IS suicide bombers in trucks targetting the Kurds.
The Kurds aren't in Cameron's FSA.
I hope I'm proved completely wrong and our latest intervention destroys IS and leads to a happy, secular, democratic Syria.
The US has been secretly arming the so calld good rebels.

In 2013 a fleet of 43 Toyota Hillux pickup trucks were shipped to the rebels. A few weeks later they began to appear in ISIS propagander videos kitted out with US made machine guns.

Then there is the trade in second hand trucks bought for cash at US auctions, that then turn being driven by ISIS in Syria.

The CIA are arming the FSA, openly: no secret about it. The problem is that often stuff has been traded on.
However they now have a system where the recently supplied TOW anti-tank missiles are only replaced if the empty casings are returned
// The family fled the brutal conflict to live in Turkey in 2011 but returned for a brief visit to see Raghat’s grandparents for Eid, reassured that the rebel-held area they lived in had not been targeted by bombing raids.

“I only took my children back to Syria for six days,” Suheer said. “We were supposed to be going home the next day. My husband never saw his daughter again.” //

Hmm, they had the sense to move their children to live in safety in Syria, but then took them on holiday to a war zone. The Russians have been bombing rebel positions since 30th September, so moving their kids in was not the best parenting decision.
UN Report:

// More than 10,000 children have been killed in the Syrian civil war, the United Nations says, while many more are subjected to "unspeakable" suffering, including rape, torture and recruitment for combat.

More than 4,000 children have also been forced to flee their homes during the three-year conflict, according to a report released this week to the Security Council and .

Many more are the victims of the use of heavy weapons by government forces and allied militias in their fight with rebels who oppose the regime of president Bashar al-Assad, the report says.

However, it adds, both sides in the conflict are guilty of abusing and misusing children, with even the Free Syrian Army – the so-called moderate opposition – recruiting them for combat roles.

The report says methods of torture inflicted on children include beatings with metal cables, whips and metal batons; electric shock, including to the genitals; the ripping out of fingernails and toenails; sexual violence, including rape or threats of rape; mock executions; cigarette burns; sleep deprivation; solitary confinement; and exposure to the torture of relatives.

It cites a 16-year-old boy as saying he witnessed his 14-year-old male friend being sexually assaulted and then killed. //

// However, opposition groups had increasingly engaged in such acts in 2013 owing to increased "access to heavy weapons and the use of terror tactics". //
