Divebuddy,
No one is saying the level of criminality is the same, we are saying the crime is the say. Of course more abuse took place in Rochdale. But the criminal act of grooming was the same in either case which is why Johnson is going to prison for a long time.
I think you're saying it's odious to compare them. But you are comparing them anyway. That's how it looks to me.
pithy pixie !

Pixie quoted DB as not wanting to compare and then a little later as wishing to compare
and pointed out the two wishes were inconsistent ( much more succinctly than I could )

and on queue - v.e. this time but it could have been anyone
pops up with an automatic " wot pixie on abart ven ?"

well done Pixie give em hell !

Lol
Yes- you've said it exactly the same way again. /
I am actually saying that to compare the two crimes is "odious". The Rochdale one was much worse and can't be compared to what Johnson did. //

How does that read to you?
divebuddy twists slowly in the breeze ......

a judge has to do exactly that when he sentences
it will be interesting to see what he says .... [ see above]

The old set text on this ( sentencing ) used to be DA Thomas Principles of Sentencing 1973 but there must be better and more modern texts now

Well....that's difficult to say, isn't it?You've said one is worse than the other. I'd call that a comparison.
-- answer removed --
Disagree. You said it couldn't be compared, because Rochdale was worse, so you still did.

O can I intervene to everyone's benefit ?

if one says " one cannot make a comparison "

then by mentioning comparison you are accepting that one exists ( existential assumption ) and that therefore one is making one

been waiting a few hours for this moment ....
Comparisons are what this OP was about......

Johnsons case v. Williams case and the comparison/difference in sentencing.

The side-bar of the Rochdale case was an enquiry as to whether the OP would have had a slightly different opinion if Johnson had been a 28-year old Muslim.
//Shall we continue this in "Jokes".//

what about the white racial supremacist section ?

[ this comment could be in the Joke section as it intended to be a ....
or... by mentioning 'joke'I am making an existential assumption that it could be a joke ]

divebuddy - There's no 'maybe' about it.

AOG sought to highlight the possible disparity between sentences of two cases which *he* thought bore comparison.

Admittedly, and not unusually, another ABer introduced something he thought pertinent and that has become the focus of this thread rather than the original question.
You can compare crimes without comparing the severity of that crime.

Johnson and the Asian Taxi Drivers are both groomers. One crime is worse than the other, but the crime is the same. And so should the puishment. It appears inconsistent to not treat the two acts of criminality exactly the same. And it seems that some are blaming the victim in one case but not in the other.
