I've voted remain, but have realised just today that whatever happens, approximately half of the country will be very unhappy indeed.

But to answer TTT's question - if Cameron is sharp, he should turn this to his advantage.

I don't completely agree with AH's summary, but who knows what the aftershocks will be.

If true "union" is what you want, then put both feet in and campaign for the dissolution of the redundant teirs of Government, the Housed of Parliament.

If our government is repeatedly at odds with Europe and Europe routinely gets its way then we are wasting money on two ineffectual talking shops, with 1200+ staff at £60+k each.

Today, which bunch of unwanted beaurocrats we dispose of is to be decided.

Which will also be true if we leave and have to negotiate trade deals if we leave. We will get a terrible deal off of everybody because they know we need to do a deal urgently.

stands to reason, if we vote remain we are voting to endure. it's like threatening to leave home then not doing it. They know that all the *** they have piled on us over the years was not enough for us to leave so they now know they can pile more on. Simples.

At the moment, Hypo, the balance between the UK and EU parliaments is actually not all that bad. And if we do move towards ever-closer union... well, maybe the UK Parliament and every other country's legislature will still stay around, with statuses similar to the individual state legislatures in the US. And in a few generations' time, people may well wonder what all the fuss was about.

Or not. Maybe I have voted for the "wrong" choice. But, honestly, I'm OK with that. I made a decision honestly, with what I believed to be my, and everyone else's best interests at heart. What the hell else am I supposed to do?

I couldn't understand how they kept getting that trade pony ariss about face.

"No they won't, tariffs on BMW/VW/audi etc will hurt their sales"

Had I been at those debates I would have piped up that tariffs on (ie against) *our* exports will hurt our earnings capacity and, only indirectly, hurt sales of European manufactured goods to us.

It's often said that our GDP is built on service industries but I cannot picture what it consists of, in detail. Is it code for "banking"? Could they slap tariffs on that? It would boost the likes of Santander (which has a sizeable chunk of the UK marketplace already).

Dozens of TV debates and this simple point was never made, as far as I could tell.

I guess I just naturally assumed that most people voting for Leave also did so with the best of intentions...

The EU imposes import tariffs on wine from Australia for example so it is not out of the question that the EU could do the same to UK's exports if we Leave.
