Forgive me but I must quote AH here from another thread. But if you voted remain, are you quite happy to accept this?
"What concerns me if we remain, is that the EU will know beyond doubt that the UK is a powerless minnow in its wake, which can be ignored or forced to suck the mop, probably both! "

Sorry who are 'they' and who is the current 'despot' we're on about (!)

/// I just happen to think that the UK and the EU have, by and large, the same "best interests". ///

Ah yes, 'Peace In Our Time'.
TTT, You don't get it do you.. part of what the EU is about is respect for the views of others. Did you realise that it is possible to earn from listening to other people. Can you remember what life was like before the EU?
Either you are stupid or acting stupid, ich
Either way you keep standing with the despot.
Which despot, Ichk?

The descendant of this one.

I didn’t vote ‘Remain’, but I think andy-hughes is right and it’s something I’ve said myself within the past few days. With the prospect of the UK’s potential exit looming David Cameron failed to achieve the reforms he wanted, so what chance in the future? As one voice among 28, none. We will be obliged to do the EU’s bidding and there will be nothing we can do about it.

//"The EU believe it or not is a union of reasonable people"//

It is? Frau Merkel doesn’t appear to be entirely reasonable to me. I think she’s off her trolley!!
Oh hark at you jomifl - what was it you called supporters of Boris - blind and stupid wasn't it ?? One rule for you then ??

jomifl "TTT, You don't get it do you.. part of what the EU is about is respect for the views of others. Did you realise that it is possible to earn from listening to other people. Can you remember what life was like before the EU? " - I have respect for the views of others but we are not talking about the M4 bus lane, On this subject we have people who are happy to collaborate with the enemy and hand our nation over to unelected foreigners, that is the very definition of treachery, so yes I do respect people's views generally but this is asking me to accept the views of people that want to end our nation, that overrides my normal accommodation on views. Yes I can remember what it is like outside the EU. We get call all your usual silly names for not having the "correct" view don't we? At least we are not traitors.
Some seem to think that Britannia still rules the waves and the sun never sets on the empire.
Why not just park a couple of gunboats strategically off the European mainland and start locking up the foreign types?
Oh, that's right, the world moved on.
If it is Remain, Cameron is not obliged to Stay. He could squeeze some extra consessions before making Stay official.

If the EU did change its relationship with us, there is nothing to stop us going through the same process in 5 years time. All this nonsense about your only chance to leave, and once in a lifetime opportunity, is bu11shit. The result is not time constrained.

who have been saying it is a on

No BS gromit, possible but extremely unlikely we would ever get another vote on this. If we do remain the rest of the EU has Dave's nads in the vice they'll not concede anything, they didn't last time way before a vote no way at all after.
If you voted leave you may have to accept it too-as this referendum is not legally binding.
Question Author
perhaps marsh but Cameron and co would be out on the their arises before you could say treacherous popinjay if they ignored it. Anyway Dave said yesterday he would implement the instructions of the people.
Sometimes I feel as though I've landed on an alien planet.
...
I am obviously Mr Thicko but I don't get the 'despot' thing
Maybe look at what happened in Scotland's independence vote as an example. The vote went in favour of STAY but the Scots seem to have secured concessions and SNP have gone from strength to strength and a future re-vote is a possibility (especially if there is Brexit)
I voted remain *runs for cover"

Silent majority win coming up ... maybe??
5 to 1 on Remain, bookies view...20 bookies of note on the list......they don't get a 2 horse race wrong on these odds.

Suddenly my fiver@12-1 on 65-70% Remain looks good....now where is that betting slip?
//Toco, If I am a traitor then you are a moron.//

Was that meant for me jamflea? I haven't even contributed to the thread (until now). Or are you both, far too eager, and "out of touch"?

enjoy your 30 pieces of silver dtc.
“The EU believe it or not is a union of reasonable people with an instinct to try to hold together:”

If you mean the 500m or so “ordinary” folk, you’re probably correct, Icky. It is the people who run it who are not, by any stretch of the imagination, “reasonable”.

I often refer to them as “Euromaniacs” because I believe they suffer from a mania to pursue their aim of a federal European nation. They have no mandate for this and the few countries that were given the opportunity to vote on the recent treaties and rejected them were simply sent away to vote again. Mr Tusk and his cronies will not “take stock” should we vote narrowly to remain. They will treat us with contempt for having the temerity to almost derail their beloved project. They are obsessed with regulation and see “unregulated” almost on par with “illegal”. They hold democracy in contempt. There is no effective democracy in the EU and its “parliament” is not worthy of the name.

Normal countries do not cede power to make legislation to foreigners; they do not cede their final arbitration of legal matters to a foreign court; they do not cede the control of their currency and interest rates to a foreign bank; they do not abandon the right to say who does and does not settle within their borders. EU member nations are not normal countries. They are in a state of transition from independent nations to simply states in an undemocratic, broken bloc. That transition cannot be thwarted by national parliaments. If you think I exaggerate, compare the EU now with the EEC of twenty-four years ago (before that nice Mr Major signed the Maastricht Treaty). Then fast forward another twenty years (or probably less) and imagine what’s to come.

If we were not members today the UK would not be clamouring to join. In fact, if the EU did not exist it is doubtful it would be formed. It is an antiquated institution which is broken and which refuses all attempts to fix itself. It is incapable of properly addressing the many crises it faces (most of them self-inflicted). Those seeking to leave it are not backward looking; quite the opposite. They are forward looking, seeking a better way of doing things in a very different world to the one the EU still thinks exists.

“If it is Remain, Cameron is not obliged to Stay. He could squeeze some extra consessions before making Stay official.”

Quite so. And I’ve heard it said that salmon live in trees and eat pencils for their lunch.

It may be a sensational term to use but a UK government that has ceded so much power to a foreign entity is, in my view, treacherous. This treachery will continue if we remain. You have been warned, you doubters out there, you have been warned!!!
