Gromit, "They listen in horror"

Where did you get this from?
Thank you EDDIE, I appreciate that. I still am left wondering why Cameron has not stood forth, he said that he would steer the country - the helm seems to be vacant.

Let's see if he appears at PMQs tomorrow.

By the way, I would like to retract the 'shoo-in' bit. Dark forces are at work. It is clear that a number of May supporters are voting for Gove in a 'Stop Leadsom' campaign. If it ends up May v Gove, as I think it will, I do not know how they stand vis-a-vis one another amongst the party faithful.
Liam Fox: 'I will campaign for Theresa May' She will make a "fine PM "

So... it beggars the question.....why did he stand against her then ?
Question Author
Dark forces, Mikey. As May is certain to be on the ballot, despite the protestations, the supporters of Crabb and Fox will vote en masse for Gove to keep Leasdom out. Worthy of a Michael Dobb's novel.
There's nothing wrong with deciding if you aren't going to win then selecting the front runner to support instead.

It's good to be seen an active politician; then no one wants to upset the favourite to get the job, nor alienate one of the other two by selecting the other.
I'd rather Leadsom win, but she won't.
Ellipsis, // that's simply not the case, otherwise every candidate would be saying the same thing - but it's only Theresa May.//

Ignoring the fact that she is not the Prime Minister, in effect all she is saying is “wait to see how the land lies”. That’s wise. Each and every one of the member states has citizens in every other country but, as far as I’m aware none has, as yet, made the firm commitment you’re expecting this country to make just a couple of weeks after the vote. All will have their citizens’ interests at heart and all will look after its own best interests in every respect, as we must do. Agreement will be reached. It’s early days. Give it time.

Eddie, //starting down a slippery slope that ends where Germany was in 1940!!//

That is hysteria! All we’re hearing from the ‘Remainers’ is dour negativity devoid of every ounce of rational thinking. You all seem to be running around like headless chickens, latching on to any scare story that comes your way! Get a grip! The world is not ending. Life will go on – and this country will thrive. Try thinking positive – just for a change!
OG....its just grandstanding. Crabb and Fox are just making sure that everybody knows that they are still alive and kicking.

As Jack has said....its like a Michael Dobbs novel !
Well said Naomi. :o}
Thanks waterboatman. This is all so very silly!!
I agree Naomi.
I don’t, Naomi. Why is it that all of us who voted to remain are being classed as poor losers latching on to every scare story etc.? Some of us accept that the Leavers won and say let’s get on with it. Some Leavers are racist bigots but we don’t class you all as such. The wisest people know that you learn more from discussions with those who have differing opinions than from those who shout ‘Well said’.
My post at 08:17 was posted on the wrong thread, but it applies to this one too. I've reposted it.
Garaman, // Some of us accept that the Leavers won and say let’s get on with it.//

Great! Would you mind saying it a bit louder? Your fellow 'Remainers' don't seem to be hearing you.
An awful lot of us didn't sign that petition, Naomi, which was the easiest thing in the world to do. You are hearing the vocal extremists which exist on each side.
Garaman, that's evident - and it's also evident that the majority of the 'Remainers' aren't taking to the streets with their anti-democracy placards. However, those who are doing so are being heard.
I was all for Theresa May being the next Prime Minister (I'm not a Tory voter) until she said that she backs nuclear weapons. Then I went off her. I can't see anyone better for the job, though. Michael Gove would be pathetic.
Perhaps some remainers (myself included) are being far more dour than we need to be, but in the short-term it's somewhat justified until we actually know the new direction the country -- and the world -- is heading as a result of this vote. On the other hand, dismissing the recent fallout seems similar to standing inside a burning house and ignoring the fire. Possibly it will burn itself out soon. But sitting there saying, "This is totally fine" is, perhaps, not the best response either.

All of the mess of the last fortnight may be an overreaction and maybe in as little as five years we'll wonder what the fuss was about. I would, believe it or not, like to think that. But we don't know. Until we do, it's totally reasonable to be at least a little apprehensive.

Returning to the question thread, the "chaos" in the Tory party seems to me to be more about how grubby politics can be. I don't think we should be celebrating returning power to Westminster if it becomes just about personal power-grabbing. In that sense, I really hope Gove loses and gets smashed in the process. It would send a message that doing politics in such a way no longer works, and I'm fairly sure we could do with that.
