/// I repeat what I'm sure I said earlier , had I watched C4 News on that occasion my concentration would have been fully on the atrocity within the report and not the look/garb of the presenter. ///

Now come on Mam, you know that isn't perfectly true.

TV is for visual effects and who the presenter is male or female, one notices them.

I am sure that if she had been topless, you would have noticed it, even if she was announcing the end of the world.

Coming to a channel near you. :0)
Only if she had nipple rings.

Could be an explosive scoop!!
retrocop - //Just a simple yes or no would have sufficed. sigh //

On reflection, my sarcasm was uncalled for - please allow me to withdraw it, with apologies.

I understand your point - but it does depend on the media involved.

Radio, by definition is an aural communication, so dress and appearance are irrelevant, but television is a visual medium, and I would expect that given aids to communication such as facial expressions and eye movements are unimpeded.
Thank you for an explanation. Apology accepted.
//Sadly for those for whom Muslim=Islamist=terrorist, tough. We live in a free country, and the statement from Channel 4 News hits the nail right on the head://

Does anyone know how many headline news announcements that she has takne. Was this one of many or the first? If it was the first was that inciting racial tension? Ch4 isn't free we are forced to pay for it.
Would it matter Togo? She says she was rostered to be on that night. Unless they changed her role from minor player to lead in view of the news item (and why would they do that?) or she deliberately put on a Hijab in view of the content of the story then i can't see what your point is
I was pleased when Huw Edwards was shuffled from the BBC 6 o'clock news to the News at Ten programme

I want to hear an English voice reading the news to me
and on the point in question - Ch4 should have used some sensitivity and changed newscaster
Al Jazeera is readily available for viewers who need the reassurance.
Maybe if you (and Kelvin Mackenzie) watched C4 News regularly, you (and he) would know enough to have a sensible conversation on the topic.
Ellipsis, // Sadly for those for whom Muslim=Islamist=terrorist, tough.//

That really is scraping the barrel. Either you are incapable of understanding what I’ve said or you are determined to misinterpret it. I suspect the latter. Sensitivity should work both ways and in my opinion her chosen style of dress on that occasion was grossly insensitive.
Retrocop says she “wants to be a role model to young wannabee Muslim journalists”, but if that is so she would influence them far more by abandoning her hijab altogether, thereby demonstrating that the uniform is not essential to the faith.
She dressed in the same style as she always dresses, but then you would know that if you actually watched the program.
^That's simply not true, according to people on your side of the argument.
According to who? People who watch the programme like I do?

Here's a Google image search for her:

All in a hijab. Odd that there aren't any of her without a hijab, if she put it on especially for this news report.

Not that that's the point. She can wear what she likes. It's a free country. The only people offended by this are those offended by the sight of a Muslim.
//All in a hijab. Odd that there aren't any of her without a hijab, if she put it on especially for this news report//

Right side and fifth down. Odd that woman without a hijab looks like her.My mistake!!
The bottom line to me is that a rostered TV presenter should not be changed, or should not be told to change their clothing just because of the story for fear of offending those who may be offended or are looking to be offended.
Should Trevor MacDonald have been taken off News at Ten when the Brixton/Moss Side riots took place? Should Kirsty Warke not have been allowed to report on Scottish devolution/independence. Should only females have been allowed to report on child sex offences?
The only valid concern to me would be if she was deliberately put in to replace someone else or chose to wore a hijab when she hadn't done previously.
I just cannot see how wearing one's normal clothing is okay for reporting on other stories but not when mass killings have been carried out by someone who was North African looking.
