Makes one wonder, would the outcome been the same had it been a mad Muslim axe man on a British train?

Let's hope he is the only one.
//A special police force unit happened to be nearby and was able to mobilise quickly, Hermann added.//

Now the UK is on a high state of alert I hope the capital's two 'special' police units can rocket themselves across the metropolis to avert deaths on our transport system as quickly!!
Retro, perhaps it's time now to have all British cops armed.

Not really a good idea. If carrying a firearm was a requirement for the job then the public would be left with very few coppers.
Some coppers have an aversion to guns and wouldn't pick one up if they were told it was unloaded.
Certainly those who are happy with a firearm to protect others should be recruited so we have more than two armed response units.
Trouble is ,stuey, if a police officer shoots anyone lawfully their action is quite rightly investigated but in the meantime the Met have treated the cop as a pariah until an outcome is reached. Loads of ,once, authorised officers just threw their authorisation cards away and said risking my life for others ain't worth the candle if we are to be treated like this.
Well, the cops here are also investigated after an "incident", and while they may be castigated by the press, I don't think that they are treated as a pariah by their superiors and fellow-officers.

A far more recent and better example whilst police officers feel they are being criminalised and isolated for doing their duty.
