//All this hand-wringing is pathetic//

how very sad!
Jackdaw, //The C of E has changed out of all recognition //

That little village is about to change out of all recognition too.
Islay, I agree. It's very sad. These hand-wringers have no more sense than flying in the air!!
The link in the OP is a year old.
The residents of Offchurch were consulted - there were 15 submissions in favour and 5 against.
The Church of England's plans have changed...

I don't think we are agreeing on what is sad Naomi!!
Islay, we're not? Well, perhaps you'll tell me what you think is sad then?
Hand wringing- that means caring doesn't it?
^^^^

trt

That should lift your spirits ?
I think its sad that when you show compassion and understanding on here you are accused of being a leftie hand wringer!

I wonder what some people see when they look in the mirror!
I think the use of stock phrases like 'handwringing' is sad, naomi- maybe that's what Islay thinks too
my reply was in response to slaney's post

///These people are from Syria they are NOT economic migrants///

You are delusional!
trt does have a liking for old links, interestingly back in November 2015 - 98% of the Village were for the plan.
Islay, and where's your caring compassion for the 250 people of that little village? Non-existent!

fiction-factory, //Hand wringing- that means caring doesn't it? //

No it doesn't. It means "an overwrought expression of concern" - and that's exactly what many of the posts here have displayed.
Naomi what do you think is going to happen to the village because they have taken some immigrants in? Do you think it is going to become infected or unclean in some manner?

Were they showing compassion and understanding then they would be helping Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, and Turkey host the camps to keep Syrian refugees safe until they can return to their homeland; rather than encouraging them to, whilst still claiming to be refugees, in reality chancing their luck at improving their life by becoming economic immigrants in the hope to force their way into other nations, that has no moral obligation to accept them.

It's a clear case of short sighted decisions based on the emotion of the heart rather than the wisdom of the head. I'm sure they feel a sense of warmth from the offer, but they can afford to ignore the wider consequences.
Personally I'd rather be known as a warm, kind hearted leftie hand wringer then a cold hearted "The world is surely going to endist"

" //Hand wringing- that means caring doesn't it? //

No it doesn't. It means "an overwrought expression of concern"

As a few have shown over the villagers which by slaneys stats were mainly for the idea.
I'm depressed that i've got to go out in the dark and cold now , to go home to the missus ( not the missus bit )
naomi, these are the people who have been brought direct from refugee camps by the United Nations . They ARE NOT people who travelled to Europe under their 'own steam'
They are part of the contingent who have been offered refuge in the UK after being selected from refugee camps on the Syrian / Lebanon border ! They are true refugees ! Perhaps you think the UN are a bunch of people smugglers?

## Okay, maybe we could ask why the church didn't open it up to the long standing homeless earlier, if that's your point ##

Precisely, charity begins at home!
