/// I am not a Christian, but I would like to ask a simple question...what would Jesus have done ? ///

I don't know what Jesus would have done, but his mother had to give birth to him in a stable, no plus mansion for her.

/// God forbid you are ever reliant on the kindness of strangers who view you in the same terms as you view these poor unfortunates. ///

And what makes you think that any country, would treat you in the same caring way that Britain seems to treat it's foreigners?
AOG - the fact that other countries may not be as compassionate as we are is all the more reason for our compassion to shine as an example - not to purse our lips and shut our doors.
jackthehat at 10:18, ok, but bearing in mind what’s been written in support of migrants coming here you can hardly blame people for thinking like that. I’ve seen nothing from your *we* to contradict the impression you’re all giving. There doesn’t appear to be much of a rational thought process going on that considers sensible decisions about who actually needs help and who we accept. It seems to me you’d all invite all and sundry – regardless of whether they’re economic migrants or not – which takes us back to divebuddy’s link, which begins with “To help real refugees be firm with economic migrants” and ends with “If you want to be a true liberal and persuade your society to accept genuine refugees, you must accept authoritarian measures and agree to the rapid expulsion of illegal immigrants”. I see none of you doing that.

andy'hughes, if I'd have known who jackthehat was talking about I wouldn't have asked. I found her post rather confusing.
AOG - It's going to become very boring quite slowly if you are determined to answer, post by post, much of the preceding without reading the responses to your latest comments...
Glad it's been shelved, now open it up to homeless kids here and ex servicemen who may need a hand up. The best answer 'nonsense' is hilarous !
aog, //I don't know what Jesus would have done, but his mother had to give birth to him in a stable//

No stable mentioned in the bible - but that's beside the point. On with the subject.
I *do* blame people for thinking like that; for failing to read properly what *we* have written because they are too blinkered by their own opinions to fully comprehend that giving an inch doesn't automatically translate into capitulating many miles.....

Which is neatly encapsulated in your "It seems to me......."

/// in 1939 they came here instead of a safe country like er Poland or France . ///

Poland a safe country in 1939??????

Didn't we go to war with Nazi Germany, because they invaded Poland in that year?

HereIam , yes that's been mentioned a few times - it would be a good use of the building.

The main downside could possibly be as I stated the lack of local resources and amenities, though I have to admit I don't know the area.
jackthehat, I've read what those who support migrants coming here have written. Perhaps you should do likewise.
I have.
And I've also read the reactionary views of those who want to pull up the drawbridges and the views of those somewhere in the middle.

But she did get pressies for him AOG, I suppose a bit like they get now!!
Gold = House, Frankincense = Benefits, Myrrh = Free Health Service.

jackthehat, I can think of only one who might want to pull up drawbridges. Most have said that sensible measures need to be taken to ensure that the people coming here are people who genuinely need help. That isn’t the impression your *we* have given.

Well done AH,

/// Oh, hang on, how long have you been
here? ///

He also has a finger on the button.
The 'sensible measures' of which you speak are often offered in the posts made by *us*.

The posts made by *you* seem to be top-heavy with muslim scare-mongering, etc. And, yes, I do know where this thread will now be headed....
Is the village local to you trt, that it has depressed you so even beyond the fact of the scheme being scrapped?

/// So instead of the church helping those refugees who are here what do you suggest we do- let them wander the streets, put them in camps with no facilities? I'm curious. ///

They are not our problem, seeing that we are not the first safe country that they arrive in.
jackthehat, //The 'sensible measures' of which you speak are often offered in the posts made by *us*.//

Really? What like this:

//I wonder what some people see when they look in the mirror!//

//Do you think it is going to become infected or unclean in some manner?//

//Personally I'd rather be known as a warm, kind hearted leftie hand wringer then a cold hearted "The world is surely going to endist"//

//God forbid you are ever reliant on the kindness of strangers who view you in the same terms as you view these poor unfortunates.//

//I am still unsure why people should object to this caring and considerate move by the Church. Shame on you all.//

//Hmmm better build an underground bunker, stock up on flamethrowers and chainsaws for the impending zombie apocalypse whilst we're at it.//

Nice try at diverting the course of this conversation, by the way, but I haven’t mentioned Muslims.

/// aog, it's transpired that it's not happening after all. The thread has moved on since then. ///

Since I always like to read each and every post on long threads such as this, I can only answer with my opinion, as I come to them.
