If A Christian Couple Can Be Fined For Refusing To Sell Something They Believe Is Against Their Religion Then Why No Action Against This Person?

OK, so IMHO religion is the root of most evil but lets forget that bit because what I am trying to understand is why there seems to be one rule for one and another for a certain other religion we all have to bend ovcer backwards to accommodate?

Why would she apply for a job in a country where alcohol is drank and served in shops - how dare she impose her skewed religious beliefs on the rest of us - not a muslin state YET !!!
Wel said NJ. A bit long winded but....well said.

p.s. I don't think you can get a bottle of Tesco's finest Cab Sauv for £4 tho ;-)
hereiam misses the point.....again.
Thanks for that Zacs, now I will get on with my day and totally forget what you said.
erm....ok. (?)
NJ - //“I won’t handle alcohol because I am a Muslim. You won’t employ me because I refuse to handle alcohol. Therefore you won’t employ me because I am a Muslim”. //

I have referred earlier to the common practice among employers to deny a candidate a post and also to opt not to give a reason, which they are perfectly, and legally entitled to do.

I can't imagine Tesco are unaware of this practice, so I would suggest that they did not employ this woman because of fears about a discrimination case if they did not do so.

Employment opportunities are open to everyone, it is for the employer to decide, or not, to employ someone with religion restrictions on the performance of their duties.

Therefore, this lady has not 'imposed' her religious views on anyone, specifically her employers since they are the ones affected - because the opted to employ her.
You have more patience than me AH.
I have more patience than anyone on here Z-M!

As I said, you may not like the way Tesco agreed to this exemption, but agree they did

That is speculating?

is there anything new left to say on this subject that hasn't been covered in the last 310 replies?
this just in: some people disagree

If you want to behave like a cross-examining counsel, get a wig and gown!

Of course she's imposed her religious views on everyone by refusing to serve alcohol. Stand by what I said 100%.

Erm Zacs - no problem !

hereIam - Who is 'everyone'?

I suggest the only person mildly inconvenienced by this lady's stance was the customer she served, and he has enjoyed his fifteen minutes out of it.

Personally, I was not 'imposed on' in the slightest, and neither, I suggest, were you.

///I suggest the only person mildly inconvenienced by this lady's stance was the customer she served///

But she didn't serve him, did she?
andy I see you've posted again, but I'm ignoring you as I've had my say which I'm VERY happy with, so post away ..
I have nothing to add other than at 316 plus posts I was expecting some more blood and guts: bottles of Tesco wine lying smashed on the floor etc :-)

I am unsure why you felt the need to tell me you are ignoring me - as though that is likely to make a difference to whether I post or not!

If your ignoring me makes one less person for me to explain the obvious to, then please, go right ahead with my enthusiastic support.

divebuddy - //Andy, I was right wasn't I. As you basically have nothing to say, you've no way of knowing when you have finished saying it. So you keep on saying it. //

No, you are wrong.

I always have something to say, every single moment of every single day.

When the time comes that I have nothing to say, it will be because I have stopped breathing.

Happy to clear up any misunderstanding.
