One has to empathise with them, the thought of a long missing daughter and now this, what can only be guessed an enormous legal bill to face?
Should they appeal?

I only hope the youngster is alive and doing well and is better off than having those nobhead parents, who I'm not convinced are totally innocent.
If she is with a couple who could take in a child not knowing or worse knowing where the child came from (a abduction) then she is with guardians who are in fact worse ... much worse the the McCanns.

With regard to whether they should appeal or not, I am confused as to what is being said. Are the courts saying that the writer has the freedom to write what he wants, meaning effectively that there is no crime of defamation in Portugal? Or are they saying that the case hasn't been proven so he is allowed to put his theories in print?
Taking all emotion out of this discussion the fact is , as murraymints states, three children under five were left unattended. Having spent many happy foriegn holidays with young children I cannot understand why they were not present with their families. children are welcomed into restaurants in portugal and you often see whole families dining late with young kids. The children were left for the convenience of the families involved. What would be the point of appeal? The Libel Laws in Portugal have not been contravened .Personally I have no compassion for either parent. There is something just 'not quite right' and the mother looks haunted, as if she 'knows'. They should now let it drop, the legal stuff anyway. Have they ever just gone away to grieve?
