We Proud Ourselves As A Tolerant Nation, So Why Are We So Intolerant Towards The Leader Of Our Friendliest Allies?
188 Answers
We ridicule him, regarding the colour of his skin, his hair style etc, etc.
We ridicule his wife and family, yet had only praise and admiration for the previous President's wife and family.
We condemn him for speaking the truth about some Mexicans, when he says they are rapists and murderers, while we ourselves are reluctant to condemn some of our Muslims even though they have been proven as murdering terrorists etc.
We also raise petitions so as to get his arranged state visit to this country banned, yet in the past have accepted state visits from some of the world's worse despots.
What kind of message does this give out to, not only the President of the USA, but also the millions of American people who voted him in power, why should they be tolerant to what must seem to them as such a nasty little country as ours?

You put forward:
[now you will accept that Trump is the President of the US now, and there is nothing you, I or anyone else can do about it.]
Actually there is.
When Trump messes up, we can discuss it and we can criticise him
Same thing with Blair, May, Clinton, Putin or any other politician.
It's called 'having a voice and an opinion'.
If people on AB want to praise or criticise Marie Le Pen or Angela Merkel, so be it. If people on AB want to praise or criticise Trump, then so be it.
I don't think it's healthy to censor criticism of politicians.
Do you?

I think any minor of any politician should be kept out of the public eye. I think attacks on minors are disgraceful (remember how certain sections of the media went after Chelsea Clinton when she was a teenager?)
However, I think that if you have adult 'children' working in the campaign and/or employed in supporting the elected politician - they're fair game.

No I don't and never have, but let's us put some real meat on the criticisms, rather than the colour of their skin, their hair, their families or even the brash boasting remarks that a particular one is said to have made towards some women.
Let us debate the real matters such as immigration, border control, their views on job creation, the way they run their countries and even more important world peace.

Trouble is Trump doesn't help himself. He spent most of his press conference lambasting the press who after all were key to his getting his message across in the first place (and the to stations who were giving him air time to make his speech before questions started) And he was at it again in Florida last night. If HE can't concentrate on the issues it's a bit much to expect everyone else to ignore his boorishness, aggression, scatter brained delivery and 'alternative fact' mongering
AOG's post seems to revolve around us potentially upsetting America and the consequences, thereof. I think he forgets that Trump won the election by an arrow margin. There are many Americans who I'd like to keep in the God books with for when this charade of a Presidency is over. And non of them voted for Trump!
Are you posting from the pub, ich?

"What as this country to gain from making America our enemy "

"What as this country to gain from making America our enemy "
The simplified version:
There's always been satire against US presidents esp republican ones, by our lefty troublemakers. And somehow it has never really mattered
Can anyone help me understand what ich is going on about?

Trump held a rally in California last evening. He was lamenting about terrorist attacks in Europe ( fair point) but he cited the dreadful terrorist attack Switzerland suffered the night before ( Friday ) ....... There was no attack on Switzerland !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the relevant part from a transcript of the speech,
"Here's the bottom line. We've got to keep our country safe. You look at what's happening. We've got to keep our country safe. You look at what's happening in Germany, you look at what's happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this. Sweden. They took in large numbers. They're having problems like they never thought possible. You look at what's happening in Brussels. You look at what's happening all over the world. Take a look at Nice. Take a look at Paris. We've allowed thousands and thousands of people into our country and there was no way to vet those people. There was no documentation. There was no nothing. So we're going to keep our country safe."
What incident(s) in Sweden was he referring to?
