An old dinosaur that should have stepped down years ago, IMHO.

Good riddance !

Sqad But the procreation argument doesn't make sense, unless gay people are biologically incapable of producing children. And let's face facts - closeted gay people have been producing kids for millennia. So - homosexuality in itself cannot possibly be dangerous to society. What would be accurate is this: "Homosexuality is dangerous to society, when...

LOL...sorry JTH.......that has got me beaten...all the gay/lady ..gay/man

Could you give me a simple example in simple terms?
JTH

"Are you sure that 'procreation' was the sole basis of his assertion about us being a 'danger to society'?"

No I'm not, but that was the obvious danger that came to my mind.
I read it as 'needs must', Sqad. :)
Special cuddle. ROFL. We used to call it a shag.

Jack...."procreation" doesn't come into it. Perhaps Turner himself could explain what he meant by homosexuality being "wrong" and "dangerous to society".

In the absence of anything more forthcoming from Turner, the my best guess is that its just bigotry on his part.
"As a mother, I know that homosexuals cannot biologically reproduce children; therefore, they must recruit our children". ~Anita Bryant, 1977
JD......Ah!....I am beginning to understand and in the absence of JTH giving me a simple example, I would assume that the homosexual becomes a heterosexual for the evening.
Is that it?

Having sex with 'someone' does not alter your sexuality.....not even for the 15 minutes, or so, that it takes.....
You'll have heard I assume, Sqad, of the abbreviation "MSM" in medical literature? Refers to "Men who have Sex with Men". Which isn't the same as being gay -- or even bisexual, for that matter.

Being gay is about far more than just what goes on in the bedroom or on the sofa. Actually, if it comes to that, continued existence of a species is about far more than how much sex goes on. Sure, it's important, but there are plenty of species in nature that either collectively or individually go without and still end up doing just fine. Gotta protect those kids and not just keep having them, yo.

Anyway, this idea that homosexuals threaten the existence of a species is nonsensical -- and even if that was all the MP had in mind, it's enough to call him out for antiquated, uninformed bull.
JTH....LOL...OK, that answers my question.
I wish i had known this in my "early years" I would have set up a company "Rentastud" and probably made a fortune.
15 minutes? Wish I could last half as long.
"bigot - a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions".
I think one of the biggest dangers to humanity is over population so heterosexuals are more of a danger than gays

"You'll have heard I assume, Sqad, of the abbreviation "MSM" in medical literature?"
Sorry.......no, i have never heard of MSM.

" Refers to "Men who have Sex with Men". Which isn't the same as being gay "
O.K.....I understand that.....hence the sailors on a long voyage, "rum, bum and gramophone records."
Yes.....I can grasp that.

" Actually, if it comes to that, continued existence of a species is about far more than how much sex goes on."
Really? we ARE talking about the human race and I cannot see the relevance of Comparative Biology.

"Anyway, this idea that homosexuals threaten the existence of a species is nonsensical "
Is it......what evidence have you for this, we are now lucky that science can intervene to save society, which may well have been threatened by homosexuality.

"even if that was all the MP had in mind, it's enough to call him out for antiquated, uninformed bull."
Right.
I want the word 'gay' reclaimed to its original use. Many good poems & songs cause titters when 'gay' is in the lyrics, eg Platters "Oh yes, I'm the great pretender
Just laughing and gay like a clown".
Why does any conversation about people like him immediately go into "he has the right to his opinion?"

Of course he does. Nobody questioned it. It's just a stupid opinion.
Judgemental??^^
Whatever caused him to step down, be it his own conscience or the Tory party leaders, it would have been better for him to be challenged to explain why he thinks that homosexuality is dangerous to society.

Perhaps he means that homosexuality brings about the breakdown of families - but that's mathematically impossible, because in terms of sheer numbers, there's not enough gay people in the world to do that.

Divorce is a much bigger danger to the traditional family unit in that respect.

Perhaps he means that homosexuality will lead to drastic reductions in child birth rates.

Again - the numbers don't work out.

Perhaps he's talking about sexually transmitted diseases. Well again - unless there's a hell of a lot of straight people having sex with gay men, society is pretty safe in this regard (and anyway, straight people don't need gay people in order to catch a myriad of existing STDs).

Only when we can get people with these views to drill down to the specifics of how these views are formed can we present alternate arguments.

It's a shame that we don't have the opportunity here.
//but that's mathematically impossible, because in terms of sheer numbers, there's not enough gay people in the world to do that. //sic

How come they get so much "air play" then I wonder :))
