I know this has probably been discussed before, but I really thought this would have ended by now. Your thoughts please?

I know, hc. I wasn't trying to imply that you agreed with it.
:)
According to one poster, she was given an overdose.
According to another poster she was sold.

These people walk amongst us!!!
And some posters believe that the parents were in no way negligent.

This is what makes people so interesting. Life would be boring if we were all clones
Deskdiary - Just let it go.

People will ponder nonsense, it happens all the time.
Noted.

Deskdiary //Or, as I prefer to think, people like Barsel are uncaring unsympathetic truly horrible people.//
I take it you have reached this conclusion because I called the parents neglectful, or was it something else that I said?
"These people walk amongst us!!!"

And so do you Deskdiary!
I know this is a touchy subject but I really don't think any more public money should be spent on this affair.
If the McCanns want to know who's responsible for their daughter's disappearance they only have to look in a mirror. I would never even dream of leaving children of that age alone. There were enough adults in that party to take shifts to stay with them.
Boaty....I have been uneasy about this case right from the start.

When Mrs Mc went to check on the kids and found Maddie missing, she ran back to where everybody else was sitting, yelling " They have taken her ! "

Who is "they" ?
this debate will go on and on... I still maintain the McCanns were negligent and ought to have faced some kind of charge, neatly sidestepped by class and social standing..however they have suffered and will continue to suffer terrible guilt..rightly so..but little is to be gained by disecting it all over and over..
Alas, you are right Minty, although I don't expect this is all that we will be hearing about this affair.
nope.. not 'till the poor wee mite is accounted for...very sad and all very avoidable !
The McCann's made a dreadful mistake, a mistake that is going to haunt them for the rest of their lives - the very strong likelihood is that they will never see their daughter again.

But...

I don't think they were negligent - and as for the more moronic and utterly absurd suggestions they they either drugged her (which is stupid enough) or the weapons grade stupidity of saying they sold her...the mind just boggles as to how these leaps of non-thinking are made.
leaving 3 children 3 and under alone in a foreign country whilst they go dining is NOT negligent ??? gadzooks.... child protection would be right on the case if it happened here !
When I think of neglected children I think of kids that are unloved, live in squalor and suffer some sort of abuse.

Not kids whose parents made a terrible mistake while on holiday. I bet they wouldn't dream of leaving their kids when at home.
so why do it in a foreign land with unknown dangers...? even more culpable
As I said previously I think they were complacent. The last thing you'd expect is a stranger to stroll into your resort and snatch one of your kids.

So they were neglectful on holiday but that doesn't mean they were neglectful parents in general for the other 50 weeks of the year.
