Prudie - // But this is a crime and illegal and you have no idea if it was done painlessly. //

I will concede the point that I have no proof that the animal was killed painlessly.

// Unlike an abbattoir it's not killed for food. They just left it there. //

That indicates that your argument is not that the animal was killed, but that you do not appreciate the reason why it was killed. As far as I am concerned, the reason for an animal's death is not mitigated by deciding that killing it for food is OK, but killing it for medicine is not OK.

// Trying to defend this in any way is disgraceful. //

I have not attempted to defend it, nor would I do so. I am merely exploring the differing attitudes that are being expressed on the thread regarding the reasons why this animal died.

You're on the road to nowhere with this one Andy.
But it's not medicine!
TTT - // Andy, ridiculous twisted illogic, even by your standards. //

I am not sure what you mean by 'my standards' - but if you want to debate the points I am making, please do so.

I have set out my arguments, and the reasons for them - simply dismissing them with insults is not going to convert me to your point of view.
Mamya - // You're on the road to nowhere with this one Andy. //

I am not 'on the road' to anywhere.

I am putting forward a viewpoint that distress about this animal's death made by anyone who is not a vegetarian is hypocrisy - as is being upset about one rhino, and ignoring the fate of millions of food animals.

I don't think any animal who dies for the economic benefit of mankind would be too worried about the finer points of the reasons why it is being killed.
ummmm - // But it's not medicine! //

Clearly it is.

It is not recognized as medicine by western medical practitioners, but to millions of Asian people it is a valid form of medical treatment, which fuels the market in rhino horn, and causes images like this to exist.

So(yes so!) unless you are a veggie you are not allowed to feel any outrage at the killing of wild animals, often endangered species, for profit or sport. I'm not allowed to hate the way cecil the lion was murdered, by some inadequate dentist so he could get a trophy, I am not allowed to feel for the elephant electrocuted as mentioned above or indeed the senseless killing of this Rhino. All because I eat meat, I am not allowed any of these feelings. Right oh Andy, you're losing it!

Someone seriously needs their Meds checked!
TTT - // So(yes so!) unless you are a veggie you are not allowed to feel any outrage at the killing of wild animals, often endangered species, for profit or sport. //

Of course you are, you are entitled to feel any way you like about anything.

To repeat, you are absolutely entitled to feel any way you like about the deaths of these animals, and the reasons behind them.

My point - and I will repeat it again, is that if you protest as publicly and vehemently as you have about these deaths, and you are not a vegetarian, them you are a hypocrite.

I am a meat eater, and I do feel shocked and appalled by the scenarios we all hear about - but as a meat eater, you will never find me shouting my outrage on here, or anywhere else, because to do so would make me a hypocrite, and I try not to do that.

By all means be angry, but you must also accept that you are not entitled to claim the moral high ground here, because you contribute directly to exactly the same sort of animal death for exactly the same reasons.

//Right oh Andy, you're losing it! //

I disagree.
Baldric - //Someone seriously needs their Meds checked! //

Do you have something worthwhile to contribute to the debate, or are you just going to sit on the side and snipe?

If you are going to snipe, do please indicate who you are sniping at, so they can defend themselves.
OK as I'm not a vegetarian I think I'll go and stamp on my cat, what should I care.
Prudie - // OK as I'm not a vegetarian I think I'll go and stamp on my cat, what should I care. //

What does being a meat eater have to do with wanton harm to a pet?

By all means debate my points, but to do so, you will need to address them, not ramble on about hurting your car.
Or cat even - my computer is deciding to change the sense of what I am saying with its random editing - apologies.
AH sorry but you are way out of order here.
Poachers shoot the animals often with a machine gun. The horn is hacked off often while the animal is still alive but dying from its injuries. A slaughter house even a Halal one still at least stuns the animals before killing them. A slaughter house kills the animal for food and the entire animal is used, either for food or byproducts
( leather Hide) . Poachers just want to cut off the horn or tusks the carcass is left to rot. The horn is not sold by medical doctors it is sold by 'witch-doctors' or black market illegal drug dealers. The potions sold are useless , rhino horn does not cure impotence, premature ejaculation, cancer or even a hangover.

"My point - and I will repeat it again, is that if you protest as publicly and vehemently as you have about these deaths, and you are not a vegetarian, them you are a hypocrite" - rubbish! no need to get into the whole animals bred for food routine, we both know the arguments. So am I a hypocrite for wanting to preserve endangered species simply because I eat meat farmed for food? It's like saying I'm a hypocrite for being outraged at US gun deaths because I go clay pigeon shooting.

I've made the only point I'm going to make on this thread,
You are really not worth the effort involved in typing any more.
"What does being a meat eater have to do with wanton harm to a pet?"
About the same as a meat eater shouldn't be upset about wanton harm to a Rhino(endangered by the way, not a cow).
I'm not ducking out but I have to go to bed.

"my computer is deciding to change the sense of what I am saying with its random editing" - perhaps it's attaining consciousness, even your computer is struggling with your outpourings here.
I wish I hadn't seen that. A-H ; I don't see what it has to with vegetarianism.

I think we have reached the brick wall versus head scenario here.
