Not sure how the complainants are being racist. I will leave it to you to explain.
AOG - both historically and up to today, racists have used monkey and ape and references to living in jungles as insults to black people.
I don’t that ‘coolest monkey in the jungle’ is an appropriate slogan for a black child to have emblazoned on his t-shirt. Yes, black children can be cheeky monkeys, but we both know that context is important.

My machine crashed, so this reply is a bit later than intended, just to clarify what I'm saying.
I don't think for one moment that the advertisers or manufacturers are racist by producing this, simply that given the 'Monkey/Jungle' abuse people have dished out over the years might have made me as a manufacturer think it through a bit more.
Would I complain about it ? - No.
The only reason I am commenting is because a question has been raised.
I have seen cute baby clothing - sleepsuits and bibs with 'I'm a cheeky little monkey' type slogans, often accompanied by a cartoon character - they seem to sit more comfortably.
Those are my points.

This is the problem tho. I believe that it was nothing other than short sighted marketing and NOT racism.
Companies are keen to ensure that their models etc are all inclusive so they dont just use blue eyed, blonde haired caucasion people, but all nationalities.
Couple that with the unfortunate slogan and you indeed have the problem that it appears racist. BUT, I dont think it was intended to be so at all. If a white kid had appeared in the ad, no one would have batted an eyelid.
However, I do agree that context is important as SP has pointed out.
and lets face it, calling most kids "little monkeys" is an understatement. Most of them are little ****

My pleasure. Because they’re finding racism where it doesn’t exist. As Barmaid says this is nothing more than short-sighted marketing and it’s short-sighted because those who aren’t obsessed with seeking out racism even where it doesn’t exist don’t tend to spot the politically incorrect so easily. If people stopped being quite so touchy and quite so precious much of the utter stupidity we currently have to ensure would disappear.
