spath - // Andy, i have to disagree there. Role models are made by individualy. The media has nothing to do with them. IE, my dad could be my role model? //
Personally, when I refer to 'role models' I am always referring to the nonsensical label pinned on famous people who don't ask for it, need it, want it, and most cases, do not deserve it.
// However, this woman is in the public eye a lot, making her a natural role model for some individually that choose to idolise her (like thousands of young girls do.. hence the whole show about her life) //
I don't think that connection is valid at all - Donald Trump is in the public eye, but that doesn't make him a role model.
I also don't believe Ms. Kardashian is 'idolised' at all.
I think she fills a need for pointless gawping and gossiping by a section of the community who take it no more seriously than they do the plot of EastEnders. The notion that people actually look to Ms Kardashian as an example of how to live is, frankly, ludicrous.
The media has got itself into a lather about the 'lifestyles' of the rich and famous since people became stars - on film, as musicians, and now as 'celebrities'.
I remember when The Rolling Stones were going to bring down civilisation as new know it - then it was The Sex Pistols, it's all fluff and it's all nonsense, but, and this is the important point, consumers of this stuff know that is it nonsense, there is no 'role modelling' going on here.
// Also with the naked tweets being re-tweeted by women with captions such as "how liberating" or "feminism at its finest, she can do what she pleases", especially when she's so successful and liberated, not to mention her body confidence. How inspiring. //
I don''t think anyone seriously believes that Kim Kardashian exposing herself in the media is remotely 'empowering' - it's another media construct.
Mick Jagger was never gong to steal way with my sisters, Johnny Rotten wasn't actually Satan incarnate (I've met him, charming and witty man) and Kim Kardashiam is neither an example of empowerment, or a role model of any meaningful kind.
// i'm afraid, without any media influence (because i haven't seen them slate her) she's still a role model for many young girls. //
Ms. Kardashian's personna is nothing but media influence! Without them publicising her, she becomes what she actually is, an averagely attractive woman married to a seriously wealthy pop star with persoanlity issues.
The rest is fluff, nothing but fluff, and no-one, especially her 'followers' actually thinks it is anything else.
You only have to look at her Instagram or twitter to see her kind of audience, influence, and reach.
