237SJ, I think what NJ is saying is that regardless of the state of play at the moment, with Heathrow as a hub for all these international destinations, that unless Heathrow grows with the times it will lose out to places like Shipol or wherever. Because they will have the ability to take destinations and traffic away from the UK.

I would perhaps have some sympathy if this didn't fit a wider pattern of *constant* lying, backtracking, prevaricating on every single damned issue. Even by the standards of what is normal for a politician, Theresa May stands out as remarkably two-faced. She just lies about absolutely everything.

The prime point is that planes' exhaust fumes stink; their rubbish fuel is polluting the environment where ever they fly. Then there's the din they make, day and night.

When these issues can be solved -- better, drastically reduced -- then NIMBY et al might adopt a more positive attitude. Their current one is understandable.
