Just heard that Ruth Davidson had given birth to a boy. The Scottish Conservative leader tweeted on Friday afternoon that she and her partner Jen Wilson named the child Finn Paul Davidson. He weighed 10lb 1.5oz. Not quite sure how I feel about this but wish wee Finn a long and happy life.

SparklyKid - // AH, you are miles of course here. My step kids grew up and left home long before I met their mother. //

Then they are not your step children, they are your wife's children from her first marriage, which is not the same thing at all.
A woman has given birth to a baby, why all the publicity, and isn't it quite normal these days for same sex couples to bring up children?

AOG -
1. She's the leader of the Conservatives in Scotland.
2. Yes, it is.

Stepchild - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepchild

A stepchild or stepkid is the offspring of one's spouse, but not one's own offspring, neither biological nor through adoption.
Oh dear, SparklyKid.....those with thin-skins probably shouldn't loudly complain about being insulted on threads where they deliberately set out to cause insult to others.....

The use of the term 'step-children/step-parents' is usually given in a household where the children still live with one biological parent. It is seldom used where two older people marry after their respective off-spring have flown the nest.
The use of the term 'step-children/step-parents' is usually given.

But not exclusively.
Very confusing. When we married, one of my wifes children was still at home and one was not. Does that mean I have only one stepchild ?
O it just means the other child had a lucky escape
Ooft 10lbs +. Big boy l!!!. I don't like RD but it's nothing to do with her sexuality or having a baby . My only concern is when the child attends school, some children adapt their parents views .

RR, you were complaining recently about insults made against you, you are out of order, again.
It an insult given your own public views on matters it is my Opinion that the child had a lucky escape.
And I think you will find I never conplained about the insults
Not an insult sorry on my phone
SparklyKid - This thread is about Ruth Davidson and her new baby and *not* about whether, or not, you are a step-parent or are feeling miffed.

Tell that to AH, he started this step parent definition going.
I believe it was your comment that started the debate on parents sparkly
//One is a parent and one is not.//
SparklyKid - And yet, by belting-up, you could put a stop to it all especially as A-H is yet to clock-in this morning....
The "he started it" guff is what I'd expect from a primary school kid and nobody else.
So Ruth has had a child and her partner is also female ..so what...what has it to do with anyone else ...good luck to them both and the new child
Good luck to them, the child has a chance of growing up to live a decent productive life. He will have two people who will love and care for him. I am sure they have men in their families to do boy stuff as and when needed.
