bainbrig, you should apologise to emmie for calling her a liar, however you have proved your point about people coming here not wishing to debate. here's your first contribution to this thread. "Diddly. The proportion is about 80% who don’t give a $h1t, 20% like you (and me) who do. I find it easiest to let the miseries have the run of threads like these, as you...

no one wants to know what you do with your money, but you haven't answered mine or others question, whether you would take in an illegal immigrant, economic migrant or other
It is indeed a good thread and a rather worrying situation. Escorted back to within paddling distance of France and that should be it.

thanks here i am, its meant to get people thinking not make them rude, as is BB's want.

They should not be allowed to enter our territorial waters, haven't we any patrol boats, to see that they don't.

The Channel is one of the busyness shipping lanes, just wait until one of these illegal boats gets mowed down, all hell will break loose.
yep AOG and you can bet your nads it'll be our fault!

The UK’s Border Force has been responsible for frontline policing of the borders since 2008 and has a fleet of five vessels. However, with one ship currently patrolling in the Mediterranean and another in dock for maintenance there are only three ships available for duty in UK waters.

not nearly enough then, thanks for the link Baldric.
AOG at 1558. Move this map around to see just how busy the Channel is: https://www.bognorregisbeach.co.uk/live-shipping-map-english-channel

Are some of you for real? This nonsense of asking people if the'd take in a refugee. Who in their right mind would let a complete stranger into their house and who really has enough room?! Daft thing to say....
Question Author
can see where the problems lie, not enough patrol boats or enough cover over in France to counteract this illegal trade in humans.
You're quite correct, ummmm: Daft. Almost as daft as letting them into the country.
Question Author
BB has said that we should be magnanimous, well he can be and take in someone from these illegal migrants,
to house, feed them. If not it's all just hot air.
Emmie complains "thanks here i am, its meant to get people thinking not make them rude"

I call that a lie, emmie. It is NOT to get people thinking, debating, reasoning.

It is to provide yet another forum for the anti-immigrant ranters to shout and thump their tubs. And if you seek their monument, look around you.

AOG: I'm not suggesting that the UK can solve all the world's problems, but what I am suggesting is that why people want to leave a country is as important an issue as why it is that a lot of them want to come to the UK. Thus, if you want to reduce illegal immigration, a good place to start is to focus on improving conditions as much as possible in the countries of origin.

That can't be only up to the UK to solve, of course, but it's something to contribute towards all the same.
Question Author
i can stand up for myself thank you BB, but some of your posts are angry and rude, something i am sure you are aware of.

so are the conditions in Iran so bad? or other places that people supposedly flee from.
I don't see the choice between being Lady Bountiful or not as being a left vs right issue; nor is understanding one needs control of one's borders in order to achieve a better place without being swamped by those wanting a share of your achievement, thus destroying your efforts to improve your part of the world.

Whether someone who supports letting folk in is willing to house those they would allow is a reasonable consideration. It indicates how genuine they hold their expressed opinion. Not worth dwelling on though.

Of course improving their homeland so they don't want to leave is best, but that's too costly to fo short term, and circumstances tend to ensure investment/charity is likely to be misused, either to make the powerful richer, or to wage conflict. The only option there is they clean up their act (as a nation rather than individuals) treat each other with respect, and allow mutually beneficial commerce/industry to speculate in whatever the nation has good potential to offer.
