Well, in any case this particular use of emergency powers is bound to be challenged, and it's not even out of the question that Congress will quash Trump's attempt to use his Presidential powers in this way. A lot will depend on the Republicans, though -- to override any possible veto powers you need 2/3 of both Houses of Congress to vote that way.
It's a reckless and stupid move from Trump. In US Politics in particular, consensus is key, and he has none; to try and force something through that is so unpopular is certain to backfire spectacularly.
Although your suggestion may not be entirely serious, it is certainly clear that Trump is seriously bad at taking advice unless it simply parrots back what he wants to hear in the first place. So maybe he shouldn't have consulted *me*, but he could certainly do with paying more attention to people who disagree with him.
//to try and force something through that is so unpopular...//
Why is it so unpopular, might you ask?
As those who favour illegal immigration usually point out that walls don't work, then why force a government shut-down for a mere 5billion.? It would cause extra inconveniencefor the illegal immigrant, for sure, but the extra costs incurred could be covered by setting up a wall and tunnel fund.
Let’s say you promised to build a wall and that you would fund that wall. Moreover you start to build that wall.
Then, horror of horrors you lose the power to carry on building the wall. The people who got you out of power and themselves in (who you are not affiliated to) can now build that wall, made a great thing about finishing building the wall you wanted, agreed to fund and had started to build.
What do you do?
Do you go great well done for finishing the wall we also wanted?
Or do you do an about vault over the wall and demand the hateful wall is smashed down and not funded and block at every opportunity?
There is a difference between being against something because you believe it to be wrong and being against it simply because someone you don’t like will do it.
Cassa, //There is a difference between being against something because you believe it to be wrong and being against it simply because someone you don’t like will do it.
