You may remember me posting this link wishing this woman well.

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1648041.html

She has had the conviction for murder quashed and is now back home.

She will now face a new trial and again, I hope that things turn out positively for her.

I have had the benefit of reading the judgements in the original appeal against sentence and the latest one against conviction. I am in two minds about this. They had separated and she had moved out; however, they had reconciled and they had spent the afternoon together at the former matrimonial home. That afternoon, she became suspicious that he was...

She beat the carp out of him in a hammer attack, no more to be said.

She hasn't denied that. She admits that she murdered him. Why she did it is the important thing.

There [i}is[i] a lot more to be said.

There is a lot more to be said.
Tilly, I don't think she has admitted she murdered him; she's admitted killing him, but with mitigating circumstances - big legal difference.
Without knowing all the new evidence I am happy to let the Law deal and will await results of the new trial.
There are many reasons someone might beat the crap out of someone with a hammer Baldric- plenty more to be said, not all killings are murder, and this most likely wasn't either.

She murderer him, end of.
I might have expected a former member of HM forces to know something of the differences in definition when bringing about death.

My expectations would be wide of the mark though.

It'll all become clear now I'm sure.

GG, yes, you are right. It does say, 'She admitted killing her husband in August 2010, but denied murder.'

Better brains than mine will understand the difference in terminology.

Douglas, he died because she hit him over the head with a hammer, over 20 times I believe, that in my book is murder.
//asked for the murder conviction to be reduced to manslaughter but the panel of judges refused and ordered a retrial.//
Why? They refused to reduce the conviction from murder to manslaughter so why a retrial. They, the judges, appear to belive she was a murderer.
Aww come on Baldric "Sally", real name Georgina, was married to him for 31 years and didn't hit him with the hammer 31 times.(near on mind) Plus she has a "New" husband, and a dead man's assets to enjoy. Not daft is she?
Question Author
A new husband? Does she?
Balders
If the circumstances of this death were reversed and hubby was the victim of alleged domestic violence our militant burn your bra brigade would not believe it and be throwing themselves under the hooves of Tiger Roll to ensure he never saw the light of day again.
FGS let see what further evidence does or does not reveal. I have read some 'nut and gut' reports written by so called experts and the storys were akin to Jackanory.

// Coercive control describes a pattern of behaviour by an abuser to harm, punish or frighten their victim and became a criminal offence in England and Wales in December 2015 //

5 years after the murder, no contest imo.
Question Author
As I said in the OP:-)

She will now face a new trial and again, I hope that things turn out positively for her.

...and I have never burned a bra in my life. That would be a waste of money.
Don't be so insulting, my opinion would be exactly the same were this a man - which is more grown up - let the law decide or yell 'End of' loudly?
I hope she can rebuild her life. And stays away from the toolkit.
What a load of absolute nonsense. If a woman abused a man for 31 years and then he killed her under identical circumstances then I'd be championing a retrial for him as well. Don't judge me with your own prejudices thanks very much.
I hope they get the right result, whichever that is. Two mental conditions could well have an affect on how "responsible" she was. Although I don't know what those were.
