I my day (the days before pills of contraception, benefits, food banks and free meals)we didn't go in for children before we had a roof over our heads and could also afford to keep them.
Now we hear of parents unable to feed their children while they are on holiday and therefore not available for free meals.
What must be addressed is why they continue to have children when they can't house them or even feed them?
And of course Mass Immigration is never highlighted as a reason for lack of housing, is it?

Mozz71, empty properties, thye maybe empty for a valid reason
if the were requisitioned by government, slippery slope, something a labour government might do, next they could put pack families into
under occupied council houses, two families living together, like it or lump it if your the occupier, religious living with non religious, and how about mixing jews with muslims, christians..after all there getting housed, better still send them back to the first country they arrived at, rather then let them cherry pick there preferred country
now..that is fair.

Agreed. The most important thing is getting people into proper accommodation, especially families with children.

You're obsessed with immigration. These aren't immigrant families we're talking about, but British nationals. They come first.

When one has finished abusing the owners of empty property and using them as scapegoats, and you've immorally seized property and filled it up, who are you going to blame next ? Either one sorts an issue out without picking on a group in society to blame and use or one should give up government as a career.

Wow. I never said at any point that properties should be seized, nor was I using landlords as scapegoats. All I said was there are long term empty properties out there if councils are willing to offer reasonable offers for them, or landlords are willing to accept subsidiaries for rent etc. No one is being forced to do anything, but surely gaining rent is better than having to pay council tax on empty properties.

The whole point of these containers is the families that live in them can't afford rents, or have failed to pay there rent in the past when they have had a council property. ( SOME) of these family adults choose to spend their income on drugs and drink, opposed to buying food for their kids. If you live in the real world you pay your rent first, along with household bills, any left is for whatever you choose to spend it on. As regards to councils buying empty property, and in most cases extensive repairs, its simple they have not got the funds to do this. The container is a good idea for the moment, and with a little imagination can be made homely and more so a lot safer than walking the streets.
Especially when the council is effectively stealing from the owners by unjustifiable demanding twice the tax on an empty property even though there are fewer using services. Although no doubt it's been legally arranged so they can claim it's nothing of the sort. Fools no one. The issue isn't empty properties, which is none of government's business any more than say, unused cars, or anything else is. It is overpopulation.
Go to many parts of China and you will see families living in a lot smaller places, and in other parts of the world they would give their right arm for the chance of a container. Those that say the UK is not a third world country, well, we are beginning to get the same problems as such, so we have to do something, rather than nothing.
Sorry, if these containers have been made habitable and are purposed for this reason, why are we having this conversation? The way people werr talking about this is that it was on a par with sleeping rough. Ignore previous posts, if these containers have been redesigned for habitation, then they seem a good stopgap until they get on their feet again.

Isn’t it just – and you one of the worst offenders. Robust debating? Your penchant for instantly doing a bunk when challenged – or more often insulting your adversary and then doing a bunk could never be described as ‘robust debating’. A far cry from the Oxford Union. Wot dat den?
