t’s hilarious, all these school kids preaching to us oldies that we messing up the planet! Back in the 60’s and 70’s not a plastic bottle to be seen it was all glass that were reused, pop bottles taken back to the shop. No plastic bags, loose food was brown paper bags, all sweets were bought in 1/4lb put in a paper bag. Mothers used shopping trolleys to carry...

I guess you can blame Henry Ford for that?
> the older generation are being blamed for messing up the planet , by kids

Yes, they are, and what's wrong with that?
//Cynical, yep. Why not play the ball, rather than the man (or 16 year old girl in this case)?//

I don't play ball with charlatans who try to gull me by exploiting a sixteen year old child. Bet the book sales will be soaring though.
I don't think that sixteen year old girl looked at all comfortable reading from a.n.other's pre -written script.
Ellipsis, you're battling against the tide of AB's old farts. They just don't get it and never will. They're attitude typifies the ageist predjudice which makes combating climate change all the more difficult. NJ's wish to still be able to buy tungsten lightbulbs is a classic example.
Their attitude. tut.
You don't think a 16 year old girl felt comfortable having to speak at a world leader event regarding climate change, whilst old men around the world defame her and mock her, not to menton fox news making every effort it can to humiliate her

She didn't even cover climate change in the school syllabus yet she's more educated than half the world leaders.

That makes me a bit uncomfortable does it not you?
Do you know any 16 year olds who have given a speech, retro? Were they comfortable?

Then add making it in a foreign language. Were they still comfortable?

Then add making it to the UN, knowing that the purpose of the speech is to lay blame at the feet of the powerful people they're talking to. Still comfortable?

If so, then you know some more impressive 16 year olds than Greta Thunberg.
//She didn't even cover climate change in the school syllabus yet she's more educated than half the world leaders.//

You didn't ask yourself who brainwashed her then?

"Brainwashed" Retro what is your problem?

Does it demasculate you that a 16 year old girl has such a platform and influence?

Who’s the real issue– the activist whose determination has single-handedly started a powerful global movement for change, or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?
//or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?//

I am not the one to exploit a child with Asperger syndrome from any position. Personally what she says and where she says it does not worry me in the slightest.
What worries me is a little girl exploited on the world stage She is being used by her elders and I would hate to see a young child abused to the state her mental well-being is affected.I reckon she will burn herself out if this pressure is prolonged.
Is she? Has she said she's being forced to do this? I'm pretty sure she wants to make the change.
We will see. Hope I am wrong forthe sake of her health. I don't understand why her Aspergers is being constantly brought into the debate. It didn't go down well on Fox News and it shouldn't here.
I enjoy being an ‘old fart’ ( hilarious) and lived through the best years ever when you drank out of glass bottles and road a bike up a cobbled hill to get a loaf called Hovis, yep, all that stuff :0)
They still get children cycling on Gold Hill, a bit bumpy on my old bones I think.
The Internet, Tuesday: Grey is clearly ill and should take a back seat.

The Internet, Wednesday: Here's something else to add to her workload (before having Tuesday's discussion all over again)
Greta. Stupid autocorrect muttermuttermoanwhine
'lived through the best years ever when you drank out of glass bottles and road a bike up a cobbled hill to get a loaf called Hovis, yep, all that stuff'

Sound idyllic.
^^^^ not forgetting the diet of bread and dripping and an old army blanket on the bed to keep you warm
Sigghhhh, Those were the days
You were lucky..........(cue the 4 Yorkshiremen sketch)
Though cobbled hills are harder to find, we can still do most of those things - but many of us choose not to.
