You can read what she said in Hansard here if you scroll down to her name, https:/ /hansar d.parli ament.u k/commo ns/2019 -09-25/ debates /504160 D3-B2D6 -4820-8 9CE-355 E6E87EA C2/Busi nessOfT heHouse
So what Valerie Vaz suggested was not to have a recess but to reschedule debate to non-contentious matters so that the Tory MPs could go to the conference without risk of anything major being debated in their absence. Is that really any different to what's happening instead though? The Tories on many issues are in the minority anyway now
Thanks TCL.
I read the bit where she said:
"The Government need the three statutory instruments on Northern Ireland, scheduled previously in September. Surely the Leader of the House could bring forward the Second Reading of the Domestic Abuse Bill, which would be supported on both sides of the House. The Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill would similarly be supported widely by Members. Those important Bills are not contentious, and they would allow the House to sit while the Conservative party conference went ahead. "
I took the sentence "and they would allow the House to sit while the Conservative party conference went ahead" as meaning there wouldn't be a recess.
Have I misread it? Or is there another bit in your link that explains it?
