He’s going to be the most powerful political figure in British politics for the foreseeable future.
But will he try to change the Conservative Party? (In his recent address to folk up north the word “Conservative” had been replaced by “People’s”)
Will he be “tax and spend” or “speculate and deregulate”?
Will he use his large majority and his personal influence to go for a “softer” Brexit - which would in any case facilitate a quicker trade deal with the EU?
When Boris Johnson was saying all that stuff Zacs the Tory party were in desperation mode. They thought that if Brexit was not delivered they’d be finished as a political force. In the end it wasn’t up to BJ when we left the EU. Despite his efforts to muzzle parliament.
Now, however, everything pretty much IS in his power. So how is he going to play it?
I think he was overwhelmed with the support he got and rightly so, but lets hope once the honeymoon period is up, he uses his position in a sensible fashion, to much power can sometimes be dangerous and clouds ones judgment. Looking back at Margret Thatcher towards the end she gave me the impression she was untouchable, and a little out of control.
I am laughing at the two village escapees on here plus the Corbyn clan who kept gloating at some sort of party disunity within the Tory party.
Well Boris drained his swamp and smashed the opposition.
Meanwhile back in the funny farm it’s civil war and threats of law suits amongst themselves. Ho Ho Ho.
Ich, it was never up to Boris when we left. That’s why it was pretty dumb of him to say what he did. And more than once! I’m not sure the Cons were ever worried that they were finished. Not with Corbyn at the helm.
As for thinking they might be finished oh yes they did. It’s easy for them to deny it now after such a big win but at the time that is exactly what they thought (wrongly in any case in my view)
Actually, Ich, you wrote 'In the end it wasn’t up to BJ when we left' which indicates (to me at least) that you thought that at some time it was up to him. My reply clarified that this was never the case. So it's not quite what you said.
